Assistant Speech and Language Therapy Team Leader (Clinical Specialism Acute Dysphagia) Acute Hospitals: UHL

(Full time 37.5 hours) Part time/flexible working considered, but not less than 30 hours per week.

The Adult Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service to the acute hospitals in Leicester (University Hospitals Leicester) is provided by Leicestershire Partnership Trust. We are very proud of our single service, providing seamless access to SLT services across acute and community in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. We have a team of 49 trained SLTs and assistants supported by a central administration team and led by a supportive management team.


This role will provide leadership, line management and support for a team of SLTs and SLTAs in the acute hospitals. You will be line managed and supported by a team manager and will have wider support from clinical leads and specialists working together to provide assurance that the service is safe, effective, efficient and responsive.

You will have highly specialist clinical skills in acute communication and dysphagia assessment and management –including skills in instrumental assessment. Skills in tracheostomy management are also desirable. You will be involved in running twice monthly videofluoroscopy clinics on a rota basis and skills in FEES are desirable as this is also a service we wish to develop further in the acute setting.

You will be based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and will work closely with 2 other B7 leads to co-ordinate the service to the general wards at the LRI on a daily basis, whilst having an awareness of the capacity and demand issues across the SLT service provided to the 3 acute hospitals (Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital). You will work flexibly across the 3 sites as needed to support complex dysphagia management

The ideal candidate will motivate, lead and develop their team and work closely with B7 colleagues and 8a team managers to enable service developments. You will be highly organised and have the enthusiasm, confidence and problem solving skills to lead a team of therapists to meet service goals. An energetic, creative and flexible approach is essential.
