The Wessex clinical genetics service is delighted to invite applications for an exciting new role to develop and lead our mainstreaming cancer genetic testing (MCGT) programme. This fixed term (3 year) senior genetic counsellor position has been established to drive forward our vision for mainstreaming cancer genetic testing (BRCA1 and 2 initially) by upskilling surgical and oncology colleagues so they are competent and confident in delivering this new role.

In addition, the postholder will support regional colleagues as they work towards commissioning this service. With clearly defined objectives for the 3 year project the successful applicant will enjoy a challenging and varied job plan that includes genetic counselling, leadership and strategic development, education, training and support and research. This post requires a clinician with drive, vision and the key skills and qualities as outlined in the person specification.

This post will be supported within the Wessex clinical genetics service, a regional specialist service providing high quality genetic counselling and consultancy (General, cancer and prenatal) for a population of 3 million in the Wessex region (Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Dorset and South Wiltshire). We are an innovative centre and committed to education and professional development. We are a host centre for the scientific training programme (STP) in genomic counselling and deliver a MSc programme in genomic medicine.

While based in clinical genetics the post holder will work very closely with colleagues in surgery, oncology, pathology and laboratory services.

This is a full time post (3 years fixed term) supported by the Wessex cancer alliance.
