The Community Paediatric Medical Service (CPMS) West (Southampton & SW Hampshire) are looking to recruit a highly motivated and passionate nurse with leadership qualities to work within our enthusiastic & friendly evolving team. This is an exciting and diverse speciality working across 3 areas of community children’s healthcare.

The role involves assisting in the health care of looked after children, assisting in child protection medicals and working with medical colleagues in the neuro development clinics, involving autism assessments and supporting families with diagnosis and after care.

 

  • Looked after Children – You will work collaboratively with a wide range of professionals and agencies within the public and private sector. This will include training to foster carers. You will play a key role in supporting a broad range of health services ensuring looked after children, care leavers and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children’s needs are met and contribute to ensure positive outcomes for this vulnerable group to reach their full potential.
  • Child Protection Medicals – You will be required to support medical colleagues to facilitate child protection medicals within 0-19-year age group, collaborative working with children's services, Police and other partners. This will include working within the Mental Capacity Act, domestic abuse, child protection and Prevent agendas in Solent NHS Trust in line with national and local guidance. This will involve following a rota and may require some flexibility. Regular clinical supervision is provided to support this role.
  • Neurodevelopment Clinical - The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team, assisting effective assessment and diagnosis for children with Autism. They will provide limited care and support to clients who receive a diagnosis of Autism sign posting to onward support within the community. This part of the role is developing and anticipation of an advanced nursing pathway in the future is being considered.

In addition, you will need to demonstrate previous experience of working with vulnerable children and young people which is essential to this role. Experience and knowledge of Looked after Children legislation, systems and processes is desirable. You will be expected to supervise and line manage clinical support workers. You will contribute to the training and development of other professionals. You will also have good verbal and written communication skills, be highly motivated and have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills.
