Are you a Band 2 or Band 3 nursing assistant / clinical healthcare support worker looking for a challenge and an opportunity to develop and progress your career within healthcare? An exciting opportunity to train as a Nursing Associate has arisen within Solent NHS Trust.

The Nursing Associate role will bridge the gap between a support worker and a graduate Registered Nurse, providing a workforce for future healthcare.

The training is a 2-year apprenticeship Programme leading to a Foundation Degree as a Nursing Associate. It is a training Programme that combines both academic and work-based learning in the physical, psychological and public health aspects of care, from pre-conception to end of life.

The University costs for the Programme will be fully funded by Solent NHS Trust.

Successful candidates will be given a fixed term contract as a Band 3 Early Childhood Support Worker until March 2022 within the 0-19 Early Help and Prevention Service. Following successful review of your progress; you will then be supported to apply for the Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) apprenticeship. You will be supported in practice through our robust supervision offer as well as having a supervisor and assessor assigned to you. On achieving milestones throughout your apprenticeship and following successful review of progress, your fixed term contract will be extended to March 2022.

During the Programme, the TNA will continue to be employed as a Band 3, rising to Band 4 on successful completion of the on-Programme qualification, apprenticeship Programme, end point assessment and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery council as a Nursing Associate.

The Programme start date will be dependent on confirmation from Solent University; we are aiming for this to be March 2020. The TNA will be employed by Solent NHS Trust, within the 0-19 Early Help and Prevention Service. Work based placements during your training will be at the local acute hospital (Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust) and within the Southampton community.

The TNA will also gain exposure working in alternative settings in order to gain a wider appreciation of the many different health and care contexts, therefore enabling you to fulfill all the requirements of the Programme.

The academic aspect of the Programme will be delivered through attending university one day a week.

What qualifications do you need to apply for the Nursing Associate Apprenticeship?

  • A level 3 qualification or higher (A level, BTEC etc.) Please note if you have a degree, it cannot be similar to the TNA modules.
  • Must have Maths and English language at level 4 and above or grade C and above
  • Care certificate is desirable if you have worked in healthcare before
