If so, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our organisation as a Trainee Nursing Associate.

North Bristol NHS Trust are recruiting for Trainee Nursing Associates to commence training in October 2020.

The trust will only support trainee nursing associates who have applied through our recruitment process.

The Nursing Associate role is a new support role that supports existing healthcare support workers and registered nurses to deliver exceptional hands-on care for patients.

The training programme is a higher apprenticeship that is two years in length. On completion of the apprenticeship you will register on the Nursing and Midwifery Council Register

During the programme the Trainee Nursing Associate will be employed for 2 years at Agenda for Change Band 3 level and, on successful completion, and receipt of their registration number from NMC will automatically transfer into a Band 4 Nursing Associate post within the Trust. You will continue to be paid as a band 3 until you have received your PIN from the NMC

This is a full time programme and all trainees must be prepared to work flexibly across a range of shifts throughout the week.

This apprenticeship will lead to a level 5 Nursing Associate qualification on successful completion of the End Point Assessment. The University costs for the programme are fully funded and it is a training programme that combines both academic and work-based learning in the physical, psychological and public health aspects of nursing care.

The programme is structured so that you will experience a wide variety of placements across the breadth of health and social care sectors in different organisations with the aim of giving trainees the widest exposure to healthcare.

You will have a primary clinical area allocated to you depending on your information at interview and your application. Please write in your application the areas that you have interest in from the list below.

Trainee roles are available in medical wards, neurology wards, musculoskeletal wards and surgical wards.

You will also attend study days at the Education Provider University in Bristol throughout the programme to complete the academic aspect of the programme.

Selection Event 1 at North Bristol NHS Trust

Assessment centre/interviews will be held in the Learning & Research building at Southmead Hospital on 28/03/20. You will be required to participate in group exercises on the day. More information will be provided within the interview invitation

Selection Event 2 at the university

Following successful interview at North Bristol NHS Trust you will need to attend a selection event at the university.

For any staff recruited from outside North Bristol NHS Trust,

You will be provided with all relevant induction and mandatory/statutory training. You will be expected to start in the Trust before the course starts and you may also need to complete some additional clinical skills training depending on the level of experience you have had in a healthcare setting.


Essential qualifications/experience required:

    • GCSE English and Maths (grade C or above) OR Functional skills in Maths and English level 2
    • NVQ / QCF level 3 in Health & Social Care or A levels Grade C or above in science related subject or evidence of experiential learning at level 3

Desirable Qualifications/experience

    • Experience working in an a acute healthcare setting
