Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Chief Registrar Medicine

(ST4 and above)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated trainee to work within SheffieldTeaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Chief Registrar, starting in August 2018 for 12 months.

The chief registrar role provides junior doctors with the chance to develop a wide range of skills in leadership and management, education and quality improvement.

The chief registrar initiative has been developed by the Future Hospital Programme at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and has the support of Health Education England, English deans and the General Medical Council (GMC).

Working as a chief registrar provides trainees with a springboard that places them at the heart of designing patient care, and it enables trainees to take ownership of their career development.

Uniquely, this role will enable the postholder to continue in their clinical role for 3 days per week at STH, with the remaining 2 days being protected for leadership development and quality improvement project management. Joining the third cohort of an established and already successful UK-wide programme, the chief registrars will participate in a first-class, bespoke leadership development programme that is delivered in partnership with the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) and the RCP’s Education Department.

This post will be undertaken as an in programme opportunity. Requests must be agreed prospectively with formal support from the TPD and Postgraduate Dean.

Applications are welcomed from anyone working to ST4 level or above who is training in a medical specialty that includes general internal medicine, and who has full GMC registration and has attained the full MRCP diploma or equivalent.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
