Applications are invited for a Trust Grade Doctor in Nephrology (specialist registrar equivalent) to join the team for 12-24 months initially, based at Leicester General Hospital. University Hospitals of Leicester. The successful applicant will join a team of foundation doctors, core medical trainees, specialist registrars and an associate specialist, supporting a team of 12 consultants.

This is an exciting opportunity for a doctor who has several years of experience of acute internal medicine and/or nephrology to obtain in-depth experience in a specialty which includes both acute medicine and chronic disease management. The John Walls Renal Unit has a track record of innovative service delivery and of excellence in training and clinical research. We are offering this role for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual to join the Leicester team to develop and consolidate their clinical skills and prepare them either for application for specialist training or development within the department. There is the potential for the successful applicant to contribute to research, quality improvement and teaching if desired.

The unit acts as the tertiary referral centre for the East Midlands Renal Network covering a population of approximately 2.2 million. The department has a national and international reputation and has an active programme of both clinical, laboratory and medical education research. The department has a philosophy of a multi-disciplinary approach to the care of patients with renal failure. There is a core group of experienced nursing and other health care professionals who are responsible for the planning and delivery of services to patients with renal failure in their own homes as far as possible.

The successful candidate must possess MB BS or equivalent and full GMC registration. Experience in nephrology is highly desirable.
