At University Hospitals Leicester Trust (UHL) we are on a journey to expand and reconfigure our Intensive Care service over the next two years so now is the perfect time to get on board. All 3 hospitals within UHL have an Intensive Care Unit.

The Leicester Royal Infirmary is a busy 19 bedded Unit with plans to expand further. The Unit accepts patients from a range of elective surgical specialities and emergencies from across the hospital and the Emergency Department located here at the Royal.

The Glenfield is a presently a 21 bedded unit with plans to extend a further 11 beds within the next 18 months due to reconfiguration of services. The unit presently specialises in Cardiac Surgery and Cardiology, Thoracic Surgery, Vascular and General surgery. We also admit acute respiratory patients from across the hospital. The unit is world renowned for its ECMO service, providing advanced lung treatment for critically ill adults from around the country.

Leicester General Hospital ICU is an exciting and rewarding place to work. The unit comprises of 12 beds in total with a combination of Intensive Care and high Dependency patients. There is a varied case mix of patients’ busy from many specialities including general surgery, Hepatobillary, Colorectal, urology, renal, Orthopaedics, and Gynaecology and maternity.

We care for a broad range of critically ill patients within primary nursing teams. Regardless of which Intensive Care you choose to work at, we offer a friendly and supportive working environment where our in-house education is seen as a priority. We would like you to join our team to provide excellent, compassionate care to all our critically ill patients and their families.

We would like to recruit nurses with experience of working within an acute hospital setting. However Newly Qualified nurses are also welcome to apply. Don’t worry if you haven’t got previous Intensive Care experience, as all nurses new to ICU will be supported by an in house bespoke education programme which will provide you with the necessary skills to get you established as an Intensive Care Nurse.

Please note current vacancies are at Leicester Royal Infirmary only however, you will be required to work across all three sites.
