Practitioner Psychologist / Psychological Therapist

Job Reference: 270-TA291-MH

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
Practitioner Psychologist / Psychological Therapist
HMP Swinfen Hall Prison, Lichfield
£37,570 to £43,772

The ‘Inspires’ unit works in partnership with the prison service as part of the Offender Personality Disorder pathway to deliver psychological services to young men at risk of developing what is termed as ‘personality disorders’. It comprises of two services; the Delta Enabling Environment (Assessment and Treatment) service and the Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE) service.

We are looking to recruit a motivated person who can think on their feet and creatively communicate on many levels. We are keen to recruit staff (including newly qualified) who would welcome being part of a warm and encouraging team. You will be part of a dedicated multi-disciplinary team within the Delta Enabling Environment (DEE) service. The team is settling into a new period focusing on incorporating masculinity in its approaches to working with psychological difficulties. We have learned from the past four years and adapted our interventions and social climate to prepare the young men we work with to live in the community with others. You will be part of an innovative service that is gaining a reputation for being able to work creatively with authenticity.

You will be an integral member of the team, providing and facilitating learning across the staff group from a formulation perspective. There is an expectation of delivering psychological therapies in a novel and imaginative way, building on relationships with Occupational Therapy, Art Therapy and Drama Therapy colleagues. The service blends groups (for prosocial development) and individual therapy for trauma based work, both of which you will be expected to deliver. Similarly, you will be expected to draw on all your skills as a psychologist to liaise with the wider system.

You will bring your personality, humour and integrity to delivering trauma informed work. You will have skills in specialist assessment, formulations and clinical interpretation to deliver interventions that include and go beyond stereotypical individual therapies and include group work. You will be able to map these onto the Enabling Environments ethos and standards, thereby delivering true service user led services. Your work will help challenge and change the culture and narratives around prisoners helping them to achieve their potential.

Working within a prison can be a challenging environment, and you will be supported to do so by a team of enthusiastic and experienced staff (including Prison Officers and clinical staff) through reflective groups and supervision. As part of your development, you will be encouraged and supported to develop your skills through training.
