Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) in NHS Blood & Transplant is a vital area of modern healthcare, improving patient outcomes and saving lives. As an enthusiastic and motivated individual, your talents can make a positive difference to our team based within the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

 

The Therapeutic Apheresis Services team delivers a range of therapeutic apheresis procedures for patients across the North of England. These include performing stem cell harvests and white cell depletions; providing plasma exchanges for neurology, renal and haematology patients; carrying out red cell exchanges for patients with sickle cell disease. The TAS unit in Sheffield also perform stem cell collections for 2 UK Stem Cell Registries: Anthony Nolan and the British Bone Marrow Registry.

 

As a unit assistant with TAS Sheffield, you will work closely with the nursing team to provide administrative support as well as caring for patients. This involves performing as part of a team in order to ensure the smooth daily running of the unit and maintaining the highest standards of care and effectiveness. You will be one of the first points of contact for our external agencies and will have a significant role in maintaining and strengthening these relationships.

 

As well as your experience of working in a team environment, you will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent or have relevant work experience in an appropriate area. In addition, you should have experience in Microsoft packages as well as the ability to use various forms of electronic communication. Success in this role also depends on excellent organisational and communication skills; the ability to multitask; use of initiative and great customer focus.
