Contracts Manager - Donor Characterisation

Job Reference: 918-MX4584

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT)
DTS Customer Services Contracts
Birmingham, Bristol or Barnsley
£37,570 to £43,772 pa

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is an integral part of the NHS, providing blood, tissues and organs to save and improve lives.

Donor characterisation is an absolute requirement for safe organ allocation and transplantation. The majority of organs cannot be offered or allocated to recipients until the results for the donor HLA type and microbiology screen are reported. A project board has been established to deliver a fully commissioned donor characterisation laboratory service across the UK and to oversee the transfer of commissioning responsibility to NHSBT.

The Commissioning Team in ODT is looking for a highly motivated and effective individual who will play a significant role in supporting the Donor Characterisation Service Implementation Project Board. Your main focus will be to provide an efficient service by drafting, negotiating and managing a range of contracts with our Providers, as well as providing advice to the Project Board and the Working Groups.

As an expert in your field, you will be an effective and experienced contract specialist having developed your skills in either the public or commercial sector. You will have the technical ability to draft and negotiate complex contractual agreements across a range of novel areas and will be capable of liaising with our external legal advisors to develop a suite of new templates.

You’ll be capable of expressing complicated ideas, dealing with people at all levels, influencing others as well as having excellent leadership skills. There will be a requirement for travel, including some overnight stay with notice.

This is a fixed-term/secondment post for 2 years. The successful candidate may be based in either Bristol, Birmingham or Barnsley (initially based in Leeds until May/June 2020), final location to be agreed at interview.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
