£77,913 to £105,042 per annum

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is one of only two trusts in Yorkshire and Humber to be awarded HSJ’s Top 100 Best Places to Work. We believe that You Matter Most, and this is reflected in our values of Responsible, Respectful and Passionate. So if you’re looking for an interesting and rewarding career in the NHS, where you can make a real difference to patients’ lives, Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust is the place for you. We are proud to be awarded Bronze level Investors in People, which recognises our commitment to developing our staff and is an indication of how you will be treated when you work here.

Consultant in Elderly Medicine

The Spa town of Harrogate is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Yorkshire Dales, with excellent facilities in the area for sports and outdoor activities. The cities Leeds and York are conveniently close. The area also offers a choice of outstanding local schools.

Harrogate District Hospital is a thriving centre with an ever expanding catchment area. We are looking to recruit a substantive consultant to help the Harrogate Care Of The Elderly Team to cater for this growing demand. The post offers the opportunity to pursue a subspecialty interest of your choice to complement our department.

There are currently 11 full and part time consultants within the Care Of the Elderly department, who provide outpatient specialty care and in-patient care for specialty and general medical patients. The department is supported by 4 Middle grade/ST3+, CT, GPVTS, 5 Foundation level trainees, ACP’s and a team of specialist nurses based at Harrogate District Hospital. With close links to the University of Leeds and Leeds General Infirmary, there would be significant opportunities to pursue academic and teaching interests.

This is a 6.75 PA post (including on-call) and will be flexibly time-tabled to suit the availability of the successful candidate and the demands of the service. You will predominantly be working with our Acute/Short stay Elderly team. We are also able to offer the exciting opportunity to make this a fulltime position to candidates interested in picking up further PA’s in Acute Medicine.

Candidates must have a higher medical qualification and be on the GMC Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining the CCT at the time of interview. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous. If you have any questions regarding the application process, please contact Dr Rebecca Watt via her secretaries on 01423 555304.

Closing date: 10 February 2019

Applicants who require Tier 2 immigration status to work in the UK are welcome, but such candidates will not be appointed to the post if there are a sufficient number of other suitable candidates as the employing body will in those circumstances be unable to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test, as required by UKBI.
In view of recent changes to Home Office Immigration Regulations, all applicants must state their current immigration status, including expiry dates.

All job offers are subject to Agenda for Change T&C’s, excluding medical posts. Offers may also be subject to a Standard or Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate, dependent on the position.

HDFT takes its responsibility for the Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults seriously. Each member of staff must comply with the HDFT policy, procedures and strategies relating to Safeguarding.

In submitting an application form, you authorise Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust to confirm any previous NHS service details via the ESR IAT process should you be appointed.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Tier 2 Certificate of Sponsorship

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the Resident Labour Market Test. The UK Visas and Immigration department requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
