The Trust

North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC) provides hospital and community health services to half a million people. We’re responsible for delivering over 70 services across 15 main locations and we employ over 6500 members of staff.

We're a different sort of NHS organisation. The inclusion of the words ‘integrated care’ in our name sets us apart from traditional NHS organisations.

As an integrated care organisation, we work side by side with partners and the wider community to join up health and care for patients.

Before the Trust was formed on 1 October 2019, the former Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust worked with partners in the wider North Cumbria Health and Care System to become one of the first 14 areas nationally to be confirmed as an Integrated Care System.

Now working as a single Trust, we want to become more embedded in our local community. Not just caring for people but improving their wellbeing too.

In June 2019 a North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care System was created. This means we're able to work together more easily across the region on shared challenges such as sustaining services.

Our Priorities

Each year our priorities are set through our annual business plan and objectives. These are taken from a 5 year plan that we've developed with our partners across the North Cumbria Health and Care System. This plan helps us to move towards our shared vision and we use it to decide what we need to do each year. Our plans are grouped into 4 priorities:

Service quality

We'll improve the quality of our services and learn from our mistakes to improve what we do.

System working

We'll work in partnership to develop health and care services that are integrated and provide better outcomes for the people in our community.


We'll reshape our workforce using innovative models, and value our staff by being a great place to work and embedding the right culture.

Sustainable finances

We'll deliver our financial strategy, improve the efficiency and affordability of care, and invest in the right services for the future.

Our values

Our values guide the way we work every day from board to ward. We want to make our services the best they can be for our patients, workforce and partners in the community.
