Job summary

Akari Care is seeking an experienced and passionate Cook to join their award-winning care home in Austerson. As a Cook, you will be responsible for creating delicious and nutritious meals for the residents, while ensuring their individual dietary and cultural needs are met. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is committed to providing high-quality care and making a positive difference in the lives of older people.

Main duties of the job

The Cook will have the autonomy to create menus, plate up, and arrange food trollies in an attractive way to stimulate the residents' appetites. They will be a pivotal part of the united care team, with the opportunity to coach and develop a team of kitchen staff. The successful candidate will have a caring nature, the ability to lead by example, and a flexible and adaptable approach to changes. They will be required to have a City & Guilds 706 1&2 or equivalent qualification, a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, and previous experience as a Head Chef or Head Cook in a similar environment.

As the pivotal link between the kitchen and the serving areas you will have the autonomy to create menus, plate up and arrange food trollies in an attractive way in order for our residents to gain enthusiasm and a stimulated appetite to eat.

Playing a fundamental and integral part of our united and extended care team you will be afforded the scope to coach a team into creating ideas and seeing them through as part of their own personal development needs.

What we require from you:

  • City & Guilds 706 1&2, or equivalent (achieved or working towards)

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate

  • Head chef or Head Cook experience with similar environment /surrounding

  • Supervisory or Line Management experience

  • Proven ability to lead by example, motivate a team and delegate effectively

  • Flexible and adaptable to changes at short notice
