Job summary

The cytology department within Synnovis Analytics based at St. Thomas' Hospital continues to be one of the most exciting departments to develop your career. In addition to a robust Non-gynae and FNA service, the department has also maintained a UKAS accredited Andrology service which covers 4 CCGs.

There is a well-structured training programme and regular CPD meetings for all staff within Cytopathology to ensure that staff are developed to continue in the delivery of a high-quality Service.

The Cytology department is looking for a proficient, enthusiastic, self-motivated state registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Synnovis Cytology team at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner, have an excellent attention to detail, be a good team player and keen to develop their scientific knowledge and skills through presentations and CPD activities.

Main duties of the job

The staff duties are planned on a rotational basis ensuring that staff are exposed to a variety of tasks including attending Fine Needle Aspiration clinics, semen analysis, Andrology reporting & verification and performing a range of diagnostic tests on cytology samples.

The department provides scientists who perform cellularity assessments at the various FNA clinics within Guy's and St. Thomas' and King's College Hospital Foundation Trusts.

The Senior biomedical scientists assist the cytology operational manager in the day-to-day running of the department.

You will be proficient in the use of Q-Pulse, have experience in Andrology, Non-gynae preparation for cytological analysis and the Fine Needle Aspiration service.

This role will suit a Biomedical Scientist with extensive experience in Non-Gynae cytology preparation, cellularity check in FNA clinics and Semen analysis.

About us

The department is situated in a major teaching hospital, and referral centre. Processing over 10,000 non-gynae samples per year, the cytology department is currently in a dynamic state of growth with more FNA clinics set to be established resulting in more Non-gynae cases. With a well-managed on-site production facility, the Andrology Service currently has a daily capacity to accommodate about 25 patients and is undergoing further expansion.

The cytology department is looking for professional, enthusiastic, self-motivated State Registered Biomedical Scientists to join the Synnovis cytology team as a senior Biomedical scientist at Guy's and St. Thomas', King's College Hospitals and Princess Royal University Hospital.

You will have a suite of learning opportunities available through The ACCE competencies programme, the Scientific Learning and Development Fund and the Synnovis Academy through which you can receive funding / support for advanced qualifications.
