Job summary
An opportunity for a permanent Operations Manager who is HCPC registered with significant recent experience andholding an FIBMS, MSc or equivalent. Applicants must have a proven track record of effective performance at BMS Band 7 level or above in Biochemistry.
Based in London, the post holder will operate in the busy Synnovis Blood Science Laboratories at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Denmark Hill and Princess Royal University Hospital sites.
This role will be accountable for managing a team of scientific employees and support workers and will be responsible for delivering a discipline specific service as part of the laboratory team in Synnovis. Reporting to the Operational Service Lead (OSL), you will have a high level of responsibility including leading in an area of expertise to ensure the successful operational delivery of pathology services, in line with our corporate objectives.
Responsibilities include supervision of work, performance monitoring and the training and development of all staff required for the delivery of a fit for purpose clinical technical service.
To maintain at all times the required high standards and quality and an up-to-date knowledge of all Biochemistry and Blood Science Laboratory theory and current working practices including technical problem solving of analytical equipment.
Informal visits are actively encouraged.
Main duties of the job
You should have proven experience in routine Biochemistry with evidence of advanced knowledge, and an understanding of all relevant legislation, UKAS, GMP and UK guidelines.
The Biochemistry laboratory is semi-automated, equipped with 2 Abbott Alinity analysers. The analysers operate through the Abbott AMS middleware system that are connected to the EPIC-Beaker LIMs system.
Working as part of a team, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your leadership skills, knowledge and experience in a Biochemistry Department.
The ideal candidate will lead and ensure successful operational delivery of the Biochemistry service that includes direct and indirect line management responsibility for all employees in your service including delivering all aspects of people management, such as recruitment, performance management, absence management, learning and development, employee health and wellbeing.
Manage employee availability and shift allocation to ensure required employee resource levels, including where necessary, and within budget, temporary staffing requisitions, time sheet approval and overtime.
Ensure that all areas of responsibility comply with legislation and conform with ISO 15189 and the recommendations from recognised professional bodies.
Ensure the delivery and continuity of a diagnostic pathology service that enables high standards of patient care, maintaining all regulatory accreditation whilst delivering service improvement initiatives.
