Job summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated laboratory technician to take the next step in their career, developing their operational and management skills in a high-throughput and dynamic haematological malignancy cytogenetics laboratory.
The successful applicant will join the King's Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Centre (SE-HMDS), within the South East NHS Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH).
The post holder will work with a considerable degree of autonomy and is responsible for the delivery of pre-analytical procedures within the service. They will support training for the technical staff, and work closely with the Quality Team to ensure maintenance of all quality aspects of pre-analytical procedures to ISO15189 standards.
As a member of the laboratory operational management team, the post holder will assist the Operations Leads in day to day management of the service, and will contribute to service development, including change control and validation, and process improvement.
Main duties of the job
As part of the Operational Management team, the post holder will assume responsibility for the delivery of the pre-analytical procedures within the service, ensuring service continuity for advanced patient care. Managing a team of technical staff, the post holder will also assume a supporting role in training of the pre-analytical area, and will be responsible for health and safety throughout the laboratory, working closely with the wider health and safety team.
The post holder will also contribute to the clinical work of the laboratory and perform analytical and technical work as appropriate for their experience and competencies, and will be involved in process improvement and the implementation of new developments within the service.
Significant experience in a senior technical role in a diagnostic pathology laboratory, experience of stock control and training provision are essential for the role, and experience of personnel management and service development would be desirable. The post holder will be required to work with a considerable degree of autonomy, and to work efficiently to deadlines.
The successful applicant will join the UKAS accredited Cytogenomics laboratory that sits in the heart of SE-HMDS, a multidisciplinary team with close working relationships between Haematology Clinicians and Scientists. We are the single HMDS service for the South East of England, serving a population of over 6 million people across South London and the South East of England.

A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London.
