We are looking for a forward thinking and enthusiastic Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our busy laboratory
The successful candidate will perform analytical procedures necessary for the histological diagnosis of disease. Using accredited procedures, you will rotate through both the routine histology laboratory and the specialist techniques area; including immunocytochemistry and molecular techniques
The post holder will liaise with consultant pathologists, clinicians and laboratory staff to assist in the delivery of a professional and efficient diagnostic service. You must be professional competent with high levels of concentration and able to provide a quality analytical service.
You will participation in the day-to-day workload, including tissue embedding, paraffin section cutting, routine and special staining, and frozen section procedures.
Main duties of the job
Our department processes approximately 60,000 blocks per annum and we have the latest in analytical analysers in our laboratory. Our immunocytochemistry department uses the Roche BenchMark Ultra platform and we also have Leica CM1860UV cryostat, Sakura Tissue-Tek VIP 6, Leica automated IPC cassette printer, Tissue-Tek embedding centre, Tissue Tek Prisma staining machine and HistoCore Biocut microtomes.
We are extremely proud of our OSNA service using the SYSMEX platform. OSNA - Molecular Detection of Metastases in Lymph Nodes allows us to offer our surgeons

You will be required to be familiar and confident in the use of computers and telephone systems, and be able to triage and escalate issues to the senior BMSs team in an accurate and timely fashion.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated team who are highly motivated and comfortable working independently or as part of a team. You must understand the requirements of a quality driven service and will assist in the preparation for UKAS assessment. You will take on the role of organising MLAs and prioritisation of the workflow. Participation as required on a rota allowing work through the different sections of the department.
