Job summary
This is a new and exciting role working within the First Steps
Wellbeing front Door service. The First Steps Wellbeing Front door is a new
service with the aim of supporting local adult residents to navigate local
health, social and VCSE services, receive self-help information and referrals
for emotional and mental health and wellbeing. This will include support for
upstream emotional wellbeing (e.g., through self-help and NHS Talking
Therapies) and wider determinants (e.g., financial, housing, relationship,
health problems, isolation). There will also be an escalation referral route
for residents with more serious, complex, urgent needs. The advisor role will
provide information via a range of communication modes including telephone,
email and SMS. The Wellbeing Advisor will work closely with the local
neighbourhood, developing strong links across the local area. By wrapping
around the neighbourhood, the service can provide people with the bridging
support needed, ensuring they reach the right service, first time. We are
looking for a dynamic individual with a passion for helping people, to join our
small team to help shape and deliver this pilot.If you are looking for more hours, this may be possible, if your
skills fit one of our other roles such as PWP.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate
will have a friendly and empathetic manner and have a good understanding of
wellbeing.
They will have experience of working with people who have mental health
condition or wellbeing needs and demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of mental health and how it may
present including appropriate treatment options. They will have a working knowledge of the
wider determinants of health and behaviour change models to support a holistic
approach, supporting the individual to find help with what matters most to
them.
Good listening skills are essential, as is an empathic and friendly
approach. This is an evolving pilot service, so ability to be dynamic and
embrace change is essential.
The team will work to develop and build relationships in the
Neighbourhood with a good working knowledge of pathways and how to access a
range of support from all sectors.
The successful person could come from a wide range of backgrounds. If
you are looking for more hours, DHC provides a range of services and it may be
possible to do a split role within another team.
Travel between sites may be
necessary so, whilst not essential, a car driver would be ideal.

- Experience of working with people who have mental health condition or wellbeing needs
- Demonstrates a working knowledge and understanding of mental health and how it may present including appropriate treatment options
- A working knowledge of the wider determinants of health and behaviour change models
- Ability to safely assess risk to self and others, with a good understanding of the boundaries of practice including when to seek advice/guidance
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge of Low Intensity interventions and their use in treating common mental health problem
- Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
- Experience of building relationships with a range of providers and community groups within a neighbourhood
- Ability to manage own time
