Tyneside Surgical Services (tss) is an independent provider of NHS care located in the North East of England. Our team dedicates itself to providing knowledgeable and integrated surgical services to patients. We carry out a number of elective surgical procedures across eight different specialties.

Established in 2007, the company has continued to grow and has now developed a day-case facility within Team Valley in Gateshead. The new facility comprises of theatre, a day-case unit, endoscopy and outpatient clinic facilities.

We are seeking highly motivated and dynamic individuals with excellent communication skills to provide first class patient care in our new facility. These are exciting new roles and will suit enthusiastic, flexible and motivated individuals.

Job Responsibilities

Act as an Operator under IR(ME)R 2017 regulations, assess clinical justification of referrals to ensure that the benefit to the patient outweighs the radiations risk associated with the examination.

Act as a patient and staff advocate by minimizing their exposure to radiation.

Provide efficient and courteous provision of radiographic services to the departments agreed standards whilst taking into account the patients clinical, physical and cultural needs.

To participate in the departmental Rota, being flexible in responding to service needs.

Assess clinical workload, communicate work priorities and organize work load in conjunction with other team members.

To work effectively as part of a team with respective work area.

Responsible for the safe use and maintenance of imaging equipment, reporting faults to senior staff and directly to the manufacturer/service provider when necessary.

Welcome patients, visitor and staff to the department and deal with enquiries in a kind and courteous manner.

Communicate with refers any referral queries after assessing clinical justification for an x-ray examination against (IR(ME)r and local protocols, prior to undertaking the examination.

Communicate information relating to procedure to patients and ensure informed consent for examinations is obtained.

Give factual information to patients, regarding examinations and the necessary preparations.

Communicate effectively with staff within and outside of the department to ensure the smooth operation of service.

Ensure patients receive a timely and accurate information about their examination, and ensure urgent findings are communicated in the appropriate way to referrers and radiologists.

Job Dimensions

The post holder will be accountable for their own actions without direct supervision and accountable for actions of unqualified staff.

Responsible for day-to-day clinical checks as part of a team and delivers a high standard of clinical care.

Primary duties and areas of responsibility

As a radiographer at our hospital you will bring high levels of technical knowledge and the ability to work quickly and accurately. You hold a BSC degree in diagnostic radiography (or equivalent), a post graduate qualification and excellent teamwork skills. As a radiographer, you will:

Help deliver our high-quality diagnostic imagine service.

Experience a varied caseload in the department and in theatre.

Carry out scoping to develop policies and procedures.

Supervise and develop junior colleagues.

Act as a professional role model to junior and non-qualified support staff.

Demonstrates knowledge of current research, practices and procedures within the specialist field.

Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.

Works within professional codes of conduct.

Manage own workload and support others to do this.

Undertake training when required, and support teaching and development of all staff.

Be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness.

All employees have a duty to report and any accidents, complaints, defects in equipment, near misses and untoward incidents.

To ensure that Health and Safety legislation in complied with at all times, including COSHH, Workplace Risk Assessment and Control of infection.

Communicate with patients, visitors and colleagues-by telephone, face to face, in writing or electronically to ensure the effective running of the service.

Co-operate with members of the multidisciplinary team.
