Job summary

A Registered Practitioner who will form a key part of the endoscopy team by providing skills in all areas of Endoscopy for both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures from pre-assessment to discharge.

Work collaboratively with clinicians, service managers to provide the best possible care to patients

An ability to apply theory to practice to provide a high standard of perioperative care to all patients, ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.

The post holder displays excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The post holder may be involved in ensuring the seamless transfer of patients to an acute trust should such situation arise.

The post holder will be flexible in their approach to assisting other areas of the facility within their skill set ie outpatient clinics and day-case unit.

Main duties of the job

Act as a professional role model to junior and non-qualified support staff.

Provide skilled assistance and care to patients within the endoscopy department.

Assess care needs of the endoscopy patient and develops, implements and evaluates programmes of care, rectifying and adjusting to meet individual needs.

Demonstrates knowledge of current research, practices and procedures within the specialist field.

Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with the multidisciplinary team, patients and relatives.

Works within professional codes of conduct.

Ensure that the patients needs are continually assessed and appropriate care delivered and documented.

Supervise the work of junior staff ensuring quality and confidentiality is maintained.

Manage own workload and support others to do this.

Undertake training, if required, and support teaching and development of all staff.

Be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with NMC or HPC requirements.

To participate in the management of the Endoscopy Assistant Practitioners and casual endoscopy workforce

Tyneside Surgical Services (tss) is an independent provider of NHS care located in the North East of England. Our team dedicates itself to providing knowledgeable and integrated surgical services to patients. We carry out a number of elective surgical procedures across eight different specialties.

Established in 2007, the company has continued to grow and has now developed a day-case facility within Team Valley in Gateshead. The new facility comprises of theatre, a day-case unit, endoscopy, outpatient clinic facilities as well as having on-site MRI and ultrasound scanning.
