Main duties of the job

Facilitate a network of support for both Trainee and Qualified Advanced Practitioners

Work collaboratively with local HEIs to ensure effective recruitment of individuals who meet the eligibility criteria for the Advanced Practice Training pathway

Identify and create opportunities to meet the learning and supervision needs of Trainee Advanced Practitioners

Support Educators who are managing Trainees in difficulty and the Trainees respectively

Recruit and train Advanced Practice and GP Educators in collaboration with the GP Training Programme Directors (TPDs)

Collect and interpret data to assess the quality of the learning environment

Advise on CPD requirements of the Advanced Practice workforce

Act as a conduit of information between Faculty of Advanced Practice (NHS England) and Trainee and Qualified Advanced Practitioners

Actively participate in regional and national Advanced Practice networks to keep up to date with emerging developments

The post-holder will act as a champion for Advanced Practice, embedding a coordinated and sustainable approach to training and education of the Advanced Practice workforce.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

Actively participate in ICB wide and regional Advanced practice networks to keep up to date with emerging developments and the expected levels of practice and academic attainment required for Advanced Practitioners.

  • Work collaboratively with local HEIs to ensure effective recruitment of individuals who meet the eligibility criteria for an Advanced Practice training pathway and that the courses we fund are accredited.
  • Work collaboratively with the Training Hub Quality Team and GP Training Programme Directors (TPDs) to train GP and AP Educators.
  • Facilitate a network of support for both Trainee and Qualified Advanced Practitioners (e.g. Forums)
  • Work with the Training Hub team to ensure that the CPD needs of Advanced Practitioners are met through appropriately commissioned courses and programmes of training.
  • Identify and create opportunities to meet the learning and supervision needs of Trainee Advanced Practitioners (e.g. Masterclass programme)
  • Act as a point of contact for Practice Managers, GP Employers, Educators, Training and Qualified Advanced Practices for any practical issues that arise in relation to the training and deployment of Advanced Practitioners.
  • Contribute to developing and curating the Advanced Practice page on the Training Hub website
  • Contribute to collecting and interpreting data to evaluate experience of Trainee and Qualified Advanced Practitioners and those responsible for supervising these clinicians.

Establish strong relationships and two-way communication channels with Advanced Practitioners, Trainee Advanced Practitioners, Educators, General Practice employers, the GP Training Programme Leads, the Advanced Practice ICB Leads and the Advancing Practice Faculty Team

Work in collaboration with our partner HEIs to promote and support a high-quality learning environment.

Work collaboratively to resolve difficulties experienced by Trainee Advanced Practitioners.

Sustain strong professional networks with colleagues in the Training Hub to support learning and development of the Advanced Practice workforce.

3. Functional responsibilities

Leadership

Participate in and collaborate with ICB, regional and national Advanced Practice working groups to ensure C&P are contributing to the development of this emerging professional level of Practice and are supporting the evolving strategy both nationally and locally.

In collaboration with the local HEIs, the Faculty for Advancing Practice and the General Practice employers maintain a process for recruiting and retaining clinicians of the right calibre to the Advanced Practice Training Programme.

Recruit and support the development Tier 3 Advanced Practice Educators and work with the GP Training Programme Leads to ensure a standardised process for assuring that Educators are able to maintain their competence.

Proactively identify and share good practice across professional networks.

Take responsibility for own development of professional and leadership skills.

Support for Advanced Practitioners

Provide peer support opportunities for Trainee and Qualified Advanced Practitioners.

Identify and signpost Trainee and Qualified Advanced Practitioners to resources and training that supports them in their role. Where it makes sense, deliver training to support the development of Trainee and Qualified Advanced Practitioners.

Act as a point of contact for any practical issues that arise for Trainee Advanced Practitioners.
