Senior Clinical Lead GP - Crowborough

Job summary

Our innovative model has been designed to:

Allow GPs to spend more time doing the tasks only they can do specific types of patients, specific clinical and non-clinical administration, specific leadership functions, and clinical supervision of ACP Clinical Leads and medics / pharmacists

  • Improve our ability to segment patient care in a more standardised way, and identify how best to utilise our workforce in individual surgeries and across SPC surgeries

  • Improve our ability to recruit and retain Salaried GPs in-practice and reduce our use of Locum GPs

  • Improve our ability to recruit and retain experienced ACP Clinical Leads to support and develop the ACP Clinical Leadership model further, and to clinically supervise and develop ACP and Non-medical prescriber staff

  • Improve our ability to recruit and retain ACPs and ANPs to sit under the ACP Clinical Leadership model, and be more supported to develop in their ACP and ANP roles and scope of competencies

  • Future proof the SPC model standardisation of roles, processes and systems, centralisation of roles, resilient workforce, improved stewardship of SPC finances

  • Ensure that the practice level leadership and/or management functions are covered by a clinician who is best placed to do so.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide proactive and visible clinical leadership, supporting and guiding practice staff on quality and safety matters.

  • Develop and embed robust clinical governance systems, ensuring active participation by all medical staff.

  • Lead on clinical strategy, improvement planning, and quality assurance across the practice.

  • Collaborate with Practice Management, PCNs, and SPC leads to drive service improvement and staff development.

  • Oversee clinical quality and safety, ensuring best practice through NICE implementation, significant event reviews, and compliance with CQC standards.

  • Jointly act as CQC Registered Manager and Caldicott Guardian for the practice.

  • Coordinate practice education and supervision, ensuring clinical staff remain up to date with policy and guideline changes.

  • Provide supervision for GPs and non-medical prescribers in line with SPCs Clinical Leadership Model.

Be a point of contact for practice staff who need support and guidance over quality and safety concerns. This may include a formal role in some staff members appraisals in some instances.

Develop clinical governance strategies, systems and processes and ensure the activeparticipation by all medical staff.

Attend quality assurance meeting and education meetings with other senior clinical lead GPs and with Medical Director for quality assurance purposes and agree to work in line with SPC Clinical Governance structure

To work collaboratively with practice management operational team and ACP clinical lead as practice executive team

Be responsible for taking an overview of the clinical functions of [insert name of the practice] in terms of service quality and safety.

Ensure that the systems exist to embed best clinical practice into the service (e.g. implementation of NICE guidance, record keeping etc)

Take the overall lead for review of clinical aspects of Significant Event reviews and complaints, ensuring that learning points are captured, documented, actioned and embedded into practice

Be the joint CQC registered manager with the Practice Manager

Be responsible for leading on the clinical components of CQC readiness

Ensure that the systems exist to embed patient safety across the service (e.g., record keeping, national and local safety alerts)

Take the overall lead for arranging practice education meetings and ensuring that clinical staff are made aware of changes to clinical guidelines and policy

  • A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003
  • Accredited as a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) or have 5 years experience as a full time GP with a demonstrable commitment to quality practice.
  • Currently on a performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register
  • Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check
  • Evidence of continued professional development
