We are looking for a part-time (32 hours per week) Healthcare Assistant to join our Wadhurst Medical Group team, to provide a specialist resource for patients within our practice in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Wadhurst Medical Group offers general medical services to people living and working in Wadhurst, Ticehurst and the surrounding area of East Sussex on the border of Kent. TheSurgery is run by Sussex Primary Care Ltd -https://www.sussexprimarycare.co.uk/.
Main duties of the job
Job responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking phlebotomy and sending to the laboratory
- Accurately measuring blood pressure with manual or automatic machines
- Measuring temperature, pulse, peripheral oxygen levels, height, weight and BMI, and recording patients health status (smoking, alcohol and activity levels)
- Checking and sending urine samples to the laboratory as needed and reporting to the GP for review as needed
- Removing sutures and clips, and undertaking wound management, as appropriate to training, experience and competency
- Administering injections and immunisations, includingtaking part in the surgeries annual flu vaccination programme
- Undertaking NHS Health Checks
- Assisting GPs in minor surgery, coil and implant clinics
- The management of clinical stock levels, including stocking clinical rooms and trolleys, rotation and ordering
- Taking responsibility, as a member of the nursing team, forchecking fridge temperatures daily and weekly to ensure the cold chain is maintained, and for reporting any cold chain breaches
- Attending and participating in nurse and practice meetings
- Ensuring all mandatory training is up to date

Primary Responsibilities
- To undertake phlebotomy for adults and some children as appropriate to training, experience and competency and send to the laboratory
- To perform POC D-Dimer testing as requested.
- To accurately measure Blood pressure with manual or automatic machines.
- To measure temperature, pulse, peripheral oxygen levels, height, weight and BMI.
- To set up, fit monitors and up load 12 hr blood pressure recordings.
- To check and send urine sample to the laboratory as needed and report to GP if abnormality found on a dip test.
- To perform electrocardiography and ensure results are available for GP to review as needed
- To activity ask and record patients smoking, alcohol and activity levels if required
- To chaperone as requested.
- To be supervised in the management of simple wounds.
- To removed sutures and clips
Secondary / Administrative Responsibilities
- To ensure the ordering of equipment when requested and the management of all clinical stock levels, rotation and ordering.
- To collect specimen ready for collection by hospital courier.
- To clean room/equipment to be used, according to cleaning schedule and record.
- To participate in checking toilets for cleanliness and stock.
- To ensure that the management of clinical waste and sharps bins is done safely and correctly.
- To participate in checking emergency equipment daily, and resuscitation bag weekly.
- To participate in checking the catheter bags weekly.
- To perform External and Internal Quality Control testing as required for Coaguchek and Cobas machines ensure results are recorded and submitted.
- To ensure adequate turnaround of CSSD stock.to
- To do a monthly drug stock take, ensuring that new stock is rotated and expiry dates are checked
- To participate in checking fridge temperatures daily and weekly USB checks to ensure the cold chain is maintained. To report any cold chain breach immediately.
- To clean vaccine fridges monthly
- To attend and participate in nurse and practice meetings
- To ensure that all mandatory training is up to date.
- To escalate any significant events to a manager (good or bad) and complete a significant event form.
Other Duties With Completion of Adequate Training
- To undertake POC INR monitoring using Coaguchek machines and INR star software. To monitor overdue patients and contact them either by letter or phone training available via Roche and WMG
- Injections Influenza, Pneumonia and Vitamin B12 injection HCA to attend external injection course and complete WMG competencies
- NHS health checks using Cobas machines, to attend external training and complete WMG competencies
- Doppler measurement WMG training in the use of Dopplex Ability
- Vulnerable patient reviews patients visited at home training provided by WMG
- Ear syringing and ear care to attend external ear syringing course for HCAs and complete WMG competencies
