Job responsibilities

To assist multidisciplinary clinical staff with the delivery of high quality care to individual patients and to be accountable for your own actions and decisions whilst working at all times under the supervision of a registered clinician.

Main Responsibilities

Receiving all visitors of the Urgent Care Centre, directing them as appropriate.

Supporting the Frimley UTC clinicians who are consulting urgent primary care patients with vital signs, urine dip, pregnancy tests, blood tests, ECGs or duties relevant to the day-to-day functioning of the service.

The HCA will be part of an ever-evolving MDT and is integral to the patient journey through the UTC. The post-holder will be required to have access to EPIC and will, at times, be required to write in patient entries.

The post holder will be responsible for preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Responsible for escalating deteriorating patients within the waiting room who are under the care of the UTC.

Perform weekly checks of the equipment and oversee the medical equipment used at the Urgent Treatment Centre, arranging replacements and calibration, etc.

Assisting the Urgent Treatment Centre to achieve both local and national agreed targets, for example, patients who have been pre-booked appointments (and therefore have had an initial assessment via NHS 111, appropriate clinician such as GP/Paramedic, or have used an appropriately clinically governed streaming and redirection tool) should have an evaluation within 30 minutes of arriving at the UTC.

Supporting the Urgent Treatment Centre in the reduction of patients presenting at the emergency department

Reviewing and updating waiting area information as required for the benefit of the public and staff

To assist in ensuring that Health & Safety policies and procedures are followed within the urgent care setting

Responsible for Fire Co-Ordinator duties in the clinic/department as per fire procedures.

To assist in keeping the department rooms area tidy at the end of each day

Assist the team in implementing new systems and procedures within the clinic or department.

Collaborate with all administrative staff within the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) to promote teamwork and provide mutual support, ensuring a smooth and professional service for both the public and healthcare professionals.

Demonstrate basic life support skills.

To maintain competent and confident with Safeguarding and welfare of patients

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Adhere to procedures for opening up and closing down within the HCA role.

Ensure that the consulting rooms and clinical areas are kept in a tidy condition. Replenish supplies of any items as necessary. To ensure that all property belonging to NHUC is looked after safely and securely.

Participate as an effective member of the UTC team, communicating professionally and effectively all necessary information to ensure the smooth running of the UTC

Deal with general enquiries from other professionals and patients if appropriate.

Follow operational procedures within the UTC, and respond to problems following NHUC guidelines and using own initiative when necessary.

Observe policy and procedures maintaining patient confidentiality at all times.

Observe Health and Safety policy reporting any concerns to your line manager as required by NHUC Policies.

Daily checks and cleaning of all equipment and maintain IPC within the area in line with NHUC guidelines

To act as a chaperone if required. All training will be provided.

Other duties as required

The post holder will be required to attend training and staff meetings which may take place during daytime hours and evenings, including undertaking training and refresher courses to meet the requirements of the job and participation in the Appraisal process.

Remain up to date with all statutory and mandatory training requirements

Qualifications

Essential

• Good basic education
• NVQ Level 3 Healthcare Assistant or equivalent
• Previous experience in a primary care or hospital setting

Desirable

• Safeguarding qualification.
