Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our dynamic friendly Dermatology team as a Senior Nurse. Experience in dermatology, Photodynamic Therapy and assisting in minor surgery is desirable.

The Surrey Lead Dermatology Nurse will demonstrate a commitment to quality patient care through effective leadership and team working and will work at all times in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Code of professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines.

The Surrey Lead Dermatology Nurse will exhibit the companies Values and Behaviours and will model the way for others to demonstrate these in their practice.

This role is multidimensional and requires the post holder to assume responsibility for effectively clinically leading a small team, providing advice, information and support; alongside actively supporting the Nurse Manager in the safe and efficient management of the clinics.

The job purpose is to ensure a high-quality standard of effective patient centred care is performed and delivered, this will be achieved through individual assessment of care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care to ensure the needs of the patient, and their families/carers are being met.

Main duties of the job

Strive for continuous improvements in the delivery of high-quality patient focused care.

Participate within the team including the delegation of work on a day-to-day basis for junior staff.

Plan and manage skill mix to reflect the workload and meet the needs of the patients, including using e-rostering system effectively.

Act as clinical expert providing specialist knowledge and advice to both nurses and medical staff working in the clinic.

Be the named clinical expert responsible on shift for the continuing care of patients in clinic.

Organise own workload and support staff to time manage and prioritise.

About us

Sussex Community Dermatology Service (SCDS) is a busy community dermatology service stretching across Coastal West Sussex, Surrey, Horsham, Mid Sussex and West Kent. The clinical team consists of Consultant Dermatologists, GPwSIs as well as registered trained nurses and health care assistants. The service aims to see and treat patients during their initial appointment in order to avoid the patient having numerous follow-up appointments. The clinical services available to the patients within our service include day surgery, minor operations, patch testing, photodynamic therapy, phototherapy and private clinics.

Organise own workload and support staff to time manage and prioritise.

Have appropriate clinical and professional insight to acknowledge own clinical boundaries, and limitations.

Responsible for working within the Nursing and Midwifery Council codes of practice.

Assist with the patient advice line offering expert telephone advice following clinical procedures, i.e. wound care advice post-surgery or laser therapy.

Ensure that nursing practices comply with company policies and procedures and are maintained at the highest standard.

Within the frame of clinical governance assist the Nurse Manager to be proactive in responding to and investigating complaints, clinical and non-clinical incidents to ensure robust systems are in place for informing and improving evidence-based practice.

Respond to patient, relatives and carers concerns as they arise, and act as required.

Assist in maintaining a safe clinical environment through participation in risk management processes, through audit, risk assessment, managing, reporting and investigating incidents.

Participate in supporting individual performance review processes.

Foster good relationships to achieve and maintain high morale and for both staff and patients.

Provide feedback to the Nurse Manager on individual staff progression or identify any concerns and document.

Demonstrate achievement in practice of competency and standards through professional development and identify ongoing education needs in accordance with the annual review, thereby creating a personal development plan.

To attend staff meetings as requested by the Nurse Manager, Clinical Director or the SCDS Service Manager

Travel to community clinics across Surrey as required.
