Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

About us

We are Cambs GP Network - a Federation of Practices across Cambridge and surrounding villages, with a social enterprise ethos - wholly owned by our local member practices. We hold the contract to deliver services at Cherry Hinton & Brookfields Medical Centre.

Cherry Hinton & Brookfields Medical Centre has nearly 9,500 patients - cared for by a supportive, experienced team and practice manager. The clinical team includes a full cohort of GPs, ANP and nurses who have been with the practice for many years. We have an excellent team of clinical coders, prescribing ANP, PCN and an in-house pharmacy team to support with admin, results and med reviews in order to reduce GP workload. The practice is located in South Cambridge, an easy cycle or drive to central Cambridge amenities and conveniently located on the outskirts for anyone travelling from outside the city.

This is a traditional practice supporting old-fashioned face-to-face high-quality consulting, that has the support of a bigger network in the form of CGPN so you can focus on patients, not firefighting and be sure of the transparent and stable running of the practice.

Part-time hours post.

Monthly clinical closure afternoon for training and team building.

Job responsibilities

Cambs GP Network are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to support the practice nursing team in the delivery of nursing services, working as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to the entitled patient population.

The healthcare assistant will deliver and assist clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.

Job RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Responsibilities:

The following are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Undertake new patient health checks
  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake basic wound care, suture removal and dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Undertake venepuncture
  • Administer flu vaccinations and other injections
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Carry out ABPIs as requested
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Undertake stock checks on expiry dates, ensuring all stock rotated and safe to use
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
