We are looking for a Clinical Support Worker to join our busy team based in Chapel-en-le-Frith to provide support to outpatient clinics within Derbyshire and Cheshire.

The successful applicant will work within the business providing high quality clinical and administrative support to patients and colleagues.

The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Services Manager, Service Managers, Clinicians, Clinical Support Workers and Administration staff to ensure our patients experience a safe and smooth pathway through the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral member of our friendly and supportive team and help to provide high quality administrative and clinic support across the services we offer. The role is varied, and the post holder is expected to perform a range of duties including, but not limited to, phlebotomy, clinic support, moving and handling, arranging appointments and stock control. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Services Manager, service managers and healthcare professionals to ensure our patients experience a safe and smooth pathway through the service.

The post holder will also be required to contribute to the improvement and development of the service.

3VHealthcare Ltd has been delivering high quality outpatient care commissioned by the NHS since 2008.The organisation was created by local GP Practices with the aim to provide excellent, local care in a range of specialties.

3VHealthcare Ltd has a multi-level organisational structure. The organisation is led by 3 Executive Directors, and is supported by a Head of Business and Operations, a Business and Information Manager and a Clinical Services Manager.

The services are led by 16 clinicians, 3 Service Managers and a clinical pharmacist.

Healthcare and administrative support is provided by 6 team members working a combination of full and part time hours.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The following section highlights some of the main duties and responsibilities expected of the post holder. This is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake other duties to support the needs of the organisation.

Clinical duties

  • Work closely with clinicians, colleagues and the clinical pharmacist to ensure a high standard of appropriate care is provided for patients across all specialities.
  • Liaise closely with colleagues to ensure accurate and timely transfer of knowledge, information and patient care plans.
  • When necessary, seek further medical advice and guidance from the relevant clinician/pharmacist and accurately relay this back to patients, carers and/or other professionals.
  • Assist in the care of patients, which includes moving and handling, chaperoning, clinic support and phlebotomy.
  • Process specimens and blood samples (label and verify patients details on the sample against the request form) and ensure they reach the collection point
  • Report any concerns regarding standards to the Clinical services manager
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations regarding the safe handling, use & storage of all stock (including medicines) and equipment used.
  • Be aware of and adhere to the organisations guidelines relating to infection prevention and control
  • Undertake mandatory training courses, competency checks and ensure this remains up to date through the online portal.
  • Strictly adhere to the organisations data protection and confidentiality policy this applies to information about patients, staff and the health service business.
  • Move and handle equipment and stock transporting it between multiple locations.
  • Arrive and unlock the clinic premises (if appropriate) 30 minutes prior to the start of the clinic and safely secure the premises post clinic
  • Ensure clinical rooms are prepared prior to the start of a clinic and left in a respectable condition post clinic including regular monitoring of stock levels
  • Assist in the management (which includes moving and handling) and recording of stock levels across all services, notifying the appropriate service manager of low stock.
  • Treat patients sensitively with dignity, respect and discretion whilst maintaining their confidentiality.

Administration duties

  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the services, including filing, scanning and uploading documents using healthcare online systems.
  • Taking messages and passing on information to the appropriate team member
  • Action and process referrals received via email and the NHS e-referral service.
  • Book, adjust and cancel patients appointments.
  • Regularly undertake telephone contact to confirm appointments with patients.
  • Assist service managers with input of data and associated administration tasks as required.
  • Book and cancel clinic rooms at host locations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to provide a warm and friendly welcome to patients and clinicians using our services.
  • Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the team, clinicians, and other associated professionals.
  • Adhere to the organisations Data Protection Policies at all times when communicating with patients, carers, colleagues and outside providers.
  • Ensure accurate and secure record keeping using approved systems.
