Job summary
The Nurse Specialist is an experienced registered nurse with specialist skills to assess and treat patients and manage the clinical environment, in liaison with the management and consultant team.
Main duties of the job
The Nurse Specialist will act as an autonomous practitioner, in
forming clinical decisions and complex management plans in the assessment and
treatment of patients. In conjunction with senior nursing and consultant staff,
they will formulate the development of clinical guidelines for all aspects
of clinical practice within the clinical speciality.
The post holder
will work closely with the interdisciplinary team and collaborate with
colleagues to ensure that high-quality patient care is maintained.

The Gynaecology
Nurse Specialist will undertake community clinics providing the following
outpatient appointments;
- Mirena
insertion / removal
- Endometrial
biopsy
- Ring/Shelf
Pessary insertion/removal
- General
nurse follow-ups
- Smears
and speculum exam
- HVS and
vulval swabs
- MSU
order and review/treat
- Contraception
Responsibilities
- To
support patient pathways in gynaecology and participate fully in the treatment
and monitoring of the patients.
- To
support where and when necessary with audit, triage of results and triage of
referrals.
- To
support and advise patients on the promotion of health and prevention of
illness, teaching patients and their relatives where appropriate.
- To
support the community gynaecology clinics and provide education and resources
for patients and families.
- The post holder will be
expected to demonstrate self-initiative as well as have the ability to manage
their own caseload for the Nurse follow-up clinics.
