Job summary

We are looking to appoint an Assistant Applied Psychologist to support the delivery of the Applied Psychology Service to individuals living at Meadow View, Doncaster.

The Assistant Applied Psychologist will work within the framework of Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) and within a multi-disciplinary framework to support people to have the best possible quality of life, and to develop skills to enable them to become more independent and able to live a lifestyle of their choosing that supports health and wellbeing.

The Assistant Applied Psychologist will work collaboratively with the people who live at Meadow View, alongside families, carers, all other employees and stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

You should have a Psychology degree (2.1 or above) recognised by the BPS, or any class of degree together with a higher degree including substantive empirical research experience.

Ideally you will have at least one year of experience working with people with autism and/or learning disability who present with behaviour that can challenge.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To assist the Applied Psychology Team in the provision of an applied psychology service to the students/residents within the service. The Assistant Applied Psychologist will carry out psychological and behavioural assessment, intervention and evaluation as defined by their qualified supervisor.

Key Result Areas:

Clinical Service

1 To assist the Applied Psychology Team in assessing the psychological and behavioural needs of individuals.

2 To assist the Applied Psychology Team in observing, monitoring and recording the behaviour of individuals in order to analyse and present the results in a format for discussion and planning purposes.

3 To work under the direction of the Applied Psychology Team in teaching and supporting staff to implement the programmes arising from such assessment.

4 To monitor and evaluate the programmes where required and advise the Applied Psychology Team accordingly.

5 To liaise closely with the Applied Psychology Team and keep them appraised of significant issues concerning the individuals.

6 To liaise with other contributing professionals where necessary, to ensure consistency and communication.

7 To build and maintain relationships with families and inform, discuss and reassure families as required, in consultation with the Applied Psychology Team, and in line with Hesley Group policies.

8 To attend meetings as directed to discuss the needs of individuals and liaise with the Applied Psychology Team as appropriate.

9 To attend case reviews when required and provide written reports for discussion at such meetings.

Research and Clinical Audit

10 To support clinical audit projects eg collecting data, summarising information.

11 To share information regarding clinical audit projects with other professionals and to undertake liaison with others in order to complete the projects.

12 To support clinically relevant research, under supervision and by negotiation with the Applied Psychology Team.

Teaching

13 To undertake literature searches, develop and maintain training packages as required.

14 To assist qualified Applied Psychology Team in delivering training for other staff.

Administration

15 To promote Hesley Group services by providing relevant information to referrers and others.

16 To provide statistical and other summaries of clinically relevant information as required by the Applied Psychology Team.

17 To aim to achieve locally developed quality standards of clinical practice.

18 To support the development and maintenance of libraries or equipment and books and other tasks necessary to the efficient running of a service.

19 To maintain clinical case notes in accordance with departmental and professional guidance.

General

20 To develop your own practice through the supervision and appraisal process, ensuring your training needs are identified and addressed.

21 To use all communication channels effectively and participate in general, managerial supervision and team meetings as required.

22 To know where to access Hesley Group policies and to be aware of and follow their contents.

23 To attend and contribute to staff meetings as required.
