Theatre Assistant

Job summary

The post holder will work as part of the theatre team and assist the trained operating theatre staff to care for patients undergoing surgery, examination or treatment, following the completion of relevant competency-based assessment.

Main duties of the job

In partnership with other professionals provide excellent patient care. This process should include relevant assessment, planning and preparation of consumables and prosthesis to ensure high standards of care when the patient undergoes their procedure.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To undertake circulation duties e.g. tying gowns, opening sterile packs and assisting with swab, instrument and needle counts.

Provide general assistance to multi-disciplinary team in the operating rooms e.g. adjust lights, collect additional instruments and restock / order theatre consumables.

To assist with the completion of documents and electronic patient record.

To ensure that correct processes are followed with regards to the management of sterile and contaminated instruments.

Ensure high standards of infection control, aseptic technique and overall cleanliness within practices and the department.

Support the team with ordering of theatre consumables.
