General Practice Assistant - Part Time

INTERVIEWS WILL TAKE PLACE ON WEDS 22ND OCTOBER 2025

This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of our well established GP Practices; Sunflower Medical Centre in an enhanced administrative role with some basic clinical elements.

Main duties of the job

1.Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.

2.Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.

3.Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.

4.Supporting GP with basic observations as required e.g. dipping urine, taking blood pressure, ECGs & phlebotomy.

5. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.

6.Explaining treatment procedures to patients as requested by the GP.

7.Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g., getting an on-call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).

The role may be flexed to suit the general practice requirements, but any clinical duties undertaken will be covered by the practice governance and associated liability insurance/arrangements.

The post holder will be working at Sunflower Medical Centre and will support the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and basic clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patient. The GPA must ensure that they work within and recognise their scope of practice, escalating any concerns to the GP.

  • Either hold or be willing to undertake a GP Assistant Skills Certificate qualification

  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Awareness of issues within the wider health arena
