Assistant Psychologist

Job summary

The post holder will contribute and support the delivery of psychological care and treatment with adult and adolescent in-patients across the hospital. To provide structured psychological assessment, formulation and psychological therapeutic intervention, both individually and in groups, under the supervision of the Clinical Psychologist. To be able to work independently according to an agreed plan with the Clinical Psychologist and within the overall ethos of the hospitals policies and procedures. To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team and provide relevant staff training routinely and attend external CPD training when required.

To assist in clinical audit and service evaluation using both qualitative and quantitative approaches and taking a lead with the application of outcome measures across the hospital which will include quarterly reporting and presentation. To support the development of research projects.

Main duties of the job

Clinical: under the supervision of the Clinical Psychologist:

  • To work on a frequent basis with people with eating disorders and other mental health difficulties in a psychologically informed way
  • To undertake structured psychological assessment of patients, including the use of self-report measures, direct and indirect observations and interviews with patients, carers and others (e.g. the MDT) involved in a persons care
  • To develop timely, working formulations and deliver care and management plans involving psychological intervention in accordance with these
  • To deliver structured psychologically informed interventions with patients either individually or in therapeutic/psycho-educational groups
  • To work with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to assess patients and review care
  • Where appropriate, to attend and contribute to the MDT and CPA meetings
  • To ensure that all clinical documentation is of a high professional standard which is in accordance with professional codes and completed in a timely manner
  • To assist in the development of psychological based care and understanding of difficulties across the hospital.
  • To attend and contribute to relevant professional meetings
