As an independent hospital, our 18
inpatient beds, which are equally divided across the hospital in both Adult and
Adolescent units, are commissioned in their entirety by NHS England. As such we
work closely with the NHS to provide a responsive and highly specialised
package of individualised treatment which is determined by assessed need and based
on clinical expertise and best practice guidelines.
The
primary purpose of this role is to work in support of patients in their recovery.
To implement integrated care plans designed by to
meet individual patient need with a focus on developing meaningful engagement
and activities and opportunities for recovery and personal development.
To provide comprehensive meal support which is
compassionate and facilitative.
Main duties of the job
You will
work as member of a cohesive and skilled multidisciplinary team to provide care
for adults and young people who are engaged in inpatient treatment for an
eating disorder.
As a
Support Worker at Riverdale Grange you will be expected to work closely and
collaboratively with patients. The hospital team are looking for an individual
who is able to maintain clear professional boundaries and whilst working within
these is able to creatively engage patients in meaningful activity. This role
requires an individual who is resilient and respectful, who is able to
demonstrate compassion and empathy.
You will
work to support patient recovery and engagement in treatment and will:
Promote
the organisation in a positive manner
To
work openly and co-operatively with patients and colleagues and to treat them
with dignity and respect at all times

To undertake nasogastric feeding and
restraint where necessary to support patient’s recovery

To provide physical health observations
for patients where necessary to support patients’ health and recovery

JOB PURPOSE
To work as a member of the Eating Disorder team in the
provision of care and support services for either adults or young persons
resident in Riverdale having treatment and care for eating disorders. As a
support worker at Riverdale you will be expected to carry out the outlined
duties while always respecting the individuals you work with and behaving in a
professional manner.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Care:
- To provide patients with the highest standard of care.
- Promote good practice in the team in accordance with NICE
guidelines, and in line with all company policies and procedures.
- To carry out tasks as described in individual care plans and/ or as
instructed by staff nurse/ patient co-coordinator.
- Support and enable patients to maintain their physical, social,
emotional wellbeing.
- To support the planning, delivery and development of group based
activities.
- To work openly and collaboratively with patients and colleagues and
to treat them with dignity and respect at all times.
- To show flexibility and a positive approach as services change and
development.
- To build positive, professional relationships with patients, and
other members of the team.
- To support patients at mealtimes, supervise patients in the lounge
after meals and snacks for the allocated time.
- To engage in nasogastric feeding and restraint.
- To undertake driving duties as necessary.
- To report immediately any concerns or significant events to the nurse
in charge.
- Assist staff in the admission of new patients.
- Adopt a clean tidy appearance at all times and wear appropriate
clothing as per company policy.
- Help and be courteous to all relatives and visitors providing
refreshments where required.
- To undertake any other duties as reasonably required in line with
individual capabilities
