Medicines Efficiency Clinical Pharmacist

Job summary
This is a fixed term position until 31st March 2026.
The post holder will contribute to the creation and delivery of a system-wide project focused on medicines optimisation, value, and sustainability. The role will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of the medicines efficiency initiative in alignment with national and local priorities.
This includes project planning, developing clinical and operational resources, engaging key stakeholders, and monitoring performance indicators to drive improved efficiency outcomes for patients and the wider health system.
The post holder will ensure that all proposals are underpinned by robust clinical governance, balancing safety, effectiveness, and operational feasibility. Using their clinical experience and professional judgement, they will assess the appropriateness of recommendations, evaluate associated risks, and ensure that changes are safe, evidence-based, and aligned with local and national priorities.
The role also involves planning and supporting the practical implementation of initiatives at both practice and system level including the development of standardised processes, identification of enablers and barriers, and coordination of relevant communication, training, and follow-up activities to embed change into routine care.
The post holder is required to work from the HGPF head office and may be required to travel within NCL premises.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver medicines optimisation and efficiency projects, with a focus on cost-effective prescribing, safety, and sustainability.
- Develop and update project documents (e.g. SOPs, guidelines, and patient information leaflets where applicable).
- Coordinate data collection, audits, and KPIs to monitor project impact and inform decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across the Integrated Care System (ICS), including primary care, community services, hospital trusts, and commissioning bodies where appropriate.
- Contribute to risk management planning, evaluation, and mitigation strategies.
- Champion evidence-based medicine into efficiency saving proposals considering legal and policy frameworks where applicable.
- Present complex clinical and project data clearly to a range of stakeholders.
- Promote and facilitate training and engagement activities to embed change into practice.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and professional standards through continuing professional development.
- Line manage and mentor up to 5 pharmacists and technicians and support their induction and development as well as track performance of key deliverables.
