About the Role:

We are looking for a caring, motivated Dental Nurse / Receptionist to join our friendly, patient-focused team. Working in our Penzance clinic will play a dual role providing high-quality clinical support to our dentists while also delivering a welcoming, efficient front-of-house experience for our patients.

In surgery, you will assist with clinical procedures, maintain excellent cross-infection control standards, and help ensure patients feel comfortable and supported throughout their visit.

On reception, you will be the first point of contact, managing appointments, handling enquiries, supporting administrative processes, and creating a positive and professional first impression.

Main duties of the job

What Youll Do

Provide chairside assistance to clinicians across general, urgent, and community dentistry settings. Maintain high standards of infection control and ensure surgeries are prepared, stocked, and cleaned efficiently. Support the delivery of emergency and routine care, including special care and paediatric sessions. Welcome patients at reception, manage appointments, respond to telephone and email enquiries, and ensure a smooth patient journey from arrival to departure. Process payments, maintain accurate patient records, and support administrative systems in line with practice policies. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering care both in-practice and, when required, through community and outreach programmes. Engage with patients compassionately, helping to reduce anxiety and ensure they feel welcomed, informed, and supported at every stage of their visit. Assist with administrative duties including record-keeping, stock control, patient preparation, and general front-of-house organisation.

To provide clinical support to dentists and therapists, ensuring the effective and safe delivery of high-quality dental care. The role also involves maintaining compliance with professional and regulatory standards while supporting efficient practice operations. The post holder will be required to provide reliable, efficient and timely reception duties to ensure Smile Together exceeds patients expectations at every visit and provides and excellent patient experience.

Travel to provide cover at other clinical locations within Smile Together will be required on occasions.

Working in Accordance with GDC Dental Standards and CQC Regulations

As a General Dental Council (GDC) registered professional, the post holder must:

Adhere to GDC Standards for the Dental Team, ensuring ethical and effective patient care.

Maintain full GDC registration without conditions.

Uphold clinical governance, infection control (HTM 01-05), and professional conduct standards.

Commitment to Patient Experience

Recognise and demonstrate an understanding of the different journey a patient will experience depending on their treatment needs and the service being provided to them

Provide clear, professional communication to patients about their treatment.

Adapt care to individual patient needs, ensuring a supportive clinical environment.

Provide support and reassurance to patients undergoing dental procedures

Assist in managing medical emergencies and follow safety protocols.

Monitor and maintain clinical stock control.

Training & Mentoring

Support the training of Foundation Dental Nurses and participate in the recruitment and onboarding of trainees.
