Are you passionate about making dental care accessible to
everyone? We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Outreach Dental
Nurse to join our team and play a vital role in delivering oral health
services and supporting the delivery of dentistry via our MDU to communities
across the county.
As an Outreach Dental Nurse, youll support a range of
community-based dental initiatives, working with patients who may have
difficulty accessing traditional dental services including schools, care
homes, and vulnerable populations.

in community or outreach dentistry is desirable, but not essential
Main duties of the job
About the Role:
Assist dental clinicians in delivering care in outreach settings across the county
Support the delivery of our mobile dental services, provided from our MDU across Cornwall
Provide chairside support during community clinics and oral health education sessions
Ensure equipment and materials are prepared and maintained for off-site clinics
Support infection control, patient safety, and safeguarding protocols in non-clinical settings
Help to promote oral health through education and engagement with patients and carers
Maintain accurate patient records and assist with administrative duties related to outreach services

Summary:
A
varied, skill-mix role that combines routine dental nursing duties with the
delivery of flexible oral health projects to a variety of patient groups
outside of the typical surgery environment. This may include working on our
Mobile Dental Unit.
The
post holder will support the delivery of Smile Togethers Outreach programme
which includes the Oral Health Promotion Service for Children and Adults with
additional needs across Cornwall, bringing educational visits and fluoride
varnishing to children in areas of high decay across Cornish communities. You
will work to educate and promote oral health to other health/non-health care
professionals working with vulnerable and hard-to-reach groups and engage with
other audiences as appropriate. This may require the delivery of online
education and you will also be involved with other outreach programmes as they
are developed across the county.
Key
accountabilities:
Delivering the Oral Health Promotion programme to pre-determined
communities across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, achieving/exceeding agreed
targets
Delivering oral health presentations to children,
parents/guardians/carers, adults with additional needs, other health and social
care professionals and other audiences as required
Raising awareness of oral health and risk factors for dental disease in
schools and local communities
Encouraging dental attendance for those children and adults not receiving
regular care
Recording and sharing feedback and evaluation to continually improve all our
services
Data capture, recording and reporting from locations visited on a regular
basis and reporting formally on a quarterly basis
Ensuring all policies, protocols and guidelines are being implemented and
followed, supporting the development of new policies as required for the
Outreach team to continuously improve the quality of the programme
Working with other members of the Outreach team in developing this
valuable service, which will entail working in partnership with other health
professionals
Providing dental nursing support to dentists and therapists across
all areas of Smile Together, as required. When dental nursing, the post holder will be
expected to deliver a high standard of clinical support and making independent judgments with
regard to equipment, instruments and materials, as would be expected of an
experienced, qualified dental nurse
Actively engaging with Smile Together teams and participating in audit
activities, planning and development sessions, and in-house meetings etc,
playing an integral role in the company as a whole
Being responsible for safe working and practice on a day-to-day basis in
sites of clinical activity, ensuring compliance with clinical governance and
legislation, appropriate health, safety and security procedures within the work
area, and reporting accidents, incidents and near misses using the Smile
Together incident reporting procedure
Travel
will be required to and from various locations to work on the outreach
programmes and when needed to provide dental nurse cover at other locations.
