Job summary
This role will involve
contribution to a specialist led minor oral surgery
service including providing treatment on referral to patients under local
anesthetic. The role holder will also contribute to the organizations urgent
care services within Peninsula Dental
Social Enterprise CIC (PDSE). The role may also involve some
undergraduate/postgraduate teaching
depending on experience, but the primary role is delivering the oral surgery
service.
Main duties of the job
There will be close working relationships with:
Senior clinical staff of PDSE and academic colleagues from the Peninsula
Dental School including the Clinical Leads for Exeter, Derriford, Devonport
and Truro.
Professor of Community Dentistry
Director of Clinical Dentistry
Staff in NHS Commissioning teams
Clinical duties
will be as directed by the line manager and PDSE clinical
leadership team.
The appointee will be expected
to contribute to the development of local NHS services as directed by the Chief Executive.
Teaching
The
appointee may contribute to undergraduate/postgraduate student teaching (to
include clinical supervision) depending on their experience. PDSE has a close
working arrangement with the Dental School and there may be opportunities for flexible working arrangements to develop career
progression.
Managerial
The
management responsibility of the post-holder will be via the Lead Clinician.
The post holder will be expected to attend relevant
meetings to discuss
service, policy and procedure
as directed.
Clinical Audit and Clinical
Governance
The post holder will take an active part in department audit arrangements and work closely with the Directors of PDSE to
undertake duties as deemed appropriate.
Research
There may be opportunities to support research
in the school relevant to the role and
specialty.

care pathways. This is a hands-on clinical role and the role holder will

full clinical and administrative support
to the role holder.
Activities may be required outside of normal working hours and in
geographically remote locations and so some flexibility is essential. Some activities may be required
in the evening and at weekends.
The post holder will be an employee of PDSE
and may also hold an Honorary Contract
with the University of Plymouth depending on the final job plan. All

- Minimum of 2-years experience undertaking Oral Surgery in a primary or secondary care setting.
- Experience of undertaking urgent care.

- Diploma in Dental sedation, SAAD training in conscious sedation or equivalent.
