Job summary

St. Catherine's School, College and Post 19 offers the opportunity to work in a unique specialist setting and make a difference to young people every day.

This role will be based in our Post 19 provision working with young adults 19 - 25 to provide intensive occupational therapy input to students with speech, language and communication difficulties and associated conditions.

Main duties of the job

Working within a multi-disciplinary team to provide a holistic approach to individual students.

You should be ready and willing to learn and be keen and enthusiastic to utilise your skills.

You will need excellent communication skills and be comfortable in disseminating general professional information as appropriate, across a range of stakeholders.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. To develop and provide, with support and advice, comprehensive assessment (including differential diagnosis), diagnosis, direct and indirect intervention for young adults with a variety of difficulties including fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing issues, visual perceptual issues alongside language and communication disorders and (associated disorders) taking a holistic perspective of students needs.

2. To ensure young adults are involved in goal setting and develop understanding of their strengths and needs.

3. To develop knowledge to inform sound clinical judgements for case management.

4. To provide with advice and support from clinical supervisor appropriate intervention and evaluate outcomes.

5. To work collaboratively with college and residential staff to ensure the integration of occupational therapy aims with education and residential aims.

6. To work collaboratively with college staff to ensure access for all young adults to the curriculum.

7. To demonstrate clinical effectiveness by use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures, thereby ensuring that practice is continually updated.

8. To adapt, with advice and support, practice to meet individuals circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic differences.

9. To be accountable for own professional action and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.

10. To work within defined departmental and national protocols/policies and professional code of conduct to ensure quality of care.

11. To demonstrate a developing ability to reflect on different aspects of young adults motor, sensory and visual perceptual needs and to identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance effectiveness in activities of daily living.

12. To provide, with support, detailed written reports as necessary to meet statutory regulation.

13. To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

14. To provide advice to parents and carers regarding students progress and carry over to the home environment.

To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with HCPC/RCOT professional standards and policies.

To share information with others, observing data protection guidelines.

To gather activity data accurately and regularly, ensuring the provision of such information promptly within guidelines.

To manage and prioritise a defined caseload with support from supervisor.

To participate in surveys and audits as necessary in order to enable the provision to meet its statutory requirements.

To undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager, which are commensurate with the role, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.
