Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity to join our well resourced and pleasant setting on a part time basis. The role is offered on a part time basis of one day per week (Friday) throughout our term time only (35 weeks per year, plus attendance at staff training days as appropriate).

Main duties of the job

You should be an RGN, ideally with experience of School Nursing, and a First Aid qualification. You should be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for working with children and young people and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Primary Responsibility

As School Nurse, you will supervise the medical room and provide a clinically effective, high-quality nursing and first aid service. As well as caring for sick, injured and distressed individuals from the school community, you will contribute to the monitoring and recording of the health status of all pupils at the school.

Key Terms of Employment

The clinic is open from 8am until 4.30 pm daily.

The role is offered on a part time, term time only basis- one day per week, each Friday, for 35 weeks per year plus attendance at staff INSET days as required.

Key Duties

Provide basic healthcare to pupils in case of injury or acute illness.

Collaborate with parents and healthcare professionals to develop an individualised healthcare plan for pupils with chronic health condition, such as asthma, diabetes, or epilepsy.

Assess pupil medical needs, implement individual pupil risk assessments or healthcare plans and update existing ones, ensuring a holistic approach to pupils needs.

Educate pupils on healthy habits, such as proper nutrition and hygiene.

Check that medicines are stored correctly and at the correct temperature and in date.

Be responsible for the First Aiders on site and ensure their training is up to date.

Responsible for drafting, implementing, reviewing and updating the Medical policy.

Support pupils and families as required with mental health concerns, signposting the Schools counselling service as required.

Detect health problems in early stages through the careful monitoring of pupils who present in the school medical facility.

Liaise with the external school vaccination team to arrange all relevant vaccination programmes. Lead on the delivery of vaccination programmes in school, ensuring that the days are well organised and managed.

Attend and have input to meetings or home visits with members of the Pastoral team where necessary.

Provide appropriate support, guidance and, at times, challenge, to parents / carers / pupils regarding attendance issues.

Maintain accurate and detailed documentation in relation to incidents of first aid and administration of medication.

Support in the transition programme, working with parents / carers / pupils and rhe Pastoral team as required to ensure the smooth transfer of pupils with medical needs.

Keep staff updated on the medical needs of pupils as required and within the appropriate context of confidentiality.

Be the first point of contact for with parents / carers regarding any queries / concerns on medical needs.

Undertake all relevant training within the role, including CPOMS, First Aid and safeguarding training.

Ensure accident and RIDDOR paperwork is completed in a timely and accurate fashion.

Complete duties or accompany trips and visits as required.
