Job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic College Nurse to join our Student Services team. Within this role, you will be responsible for ensuring staff and students receive support and guidance with their medical and mental health needs. Our nurse must be caring and compassionate, with excellent administration and communication skills. Someone who is full of ideas is crucial to work as part of a team to develop the student experience and support all aspects of physical and emotional wellbeing.

This post will lead on first aid matters across the college by supporting a team of qualified first aiders. The successful candidate will also be part of the college core safeguarding team to caseload referrals and ensure that all students are kept safe.

Hours of work:Full-time, term time only, permanent, or part-time, job share.

Salary:Up to £36,483 FTE, and this will be adjusted in line with the hours and term-time contract.

The post holder will be accountable to the Vice Principal.

Line Management

There are no line management responsibilities associated with this role.

Duties and responsibilities:

In the first instance, the duties and responsibilities are listed below. Going forward, as the needs of the College change, the duties and responsibilities within this role may also be subject to further change.

Job details:

To support all students with medical needs and to lead on the creation and updating of medical care plans for students disclosing a range of conditions.

To maintain student medical files and to work in partnership with external organisations to ensure that students receive appropriate and timely support.

To coordinate and be the main responder on the Colleges first aid team and maintain accurate records of daily incidents ensuring that accident reports are completed in accordance with the Colleges Health and Safety policy.

To work with the pastoral team to develop a health and well-being tutorial programme and resources, focussing on issues such as sexual-health, drugs awareness, diet and exercise.

To be part of the college core safeguarding team as a designated safeguarding lead. The postholder will work closely with the college Safeguarding Officer to caseload referrals and ensure that these students are kept safe in line with keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together to Safeguard Children.

To support students if they require hospital treatment including attending Accident and Emergency as required.

To work with the pastoral management team to support the team to help improve attendance, retention and punctuality at the College via the Fitness to study process.

To offer training to staff and students on managing medicines and medical conditions.

To receive, store and administer student medication where required.

To lead on a wide range of projects and initiatives across the College, relating to health, wellbeing and healthy living.

To carry out any other duties appropriate to the post which may be required, as the role develops.
