Clifton College is looking for a Residential Nurse on a fixed term basis for 12
months to cover maternity leave. As a residential member of staff you will be
provided free accommodation, bills included, in the heart of Clifton Village, a
very sought after place to live in Bristol. Partners are also welcome with full DBS
clearance.
You will be required to work and occupy the residence only 34 weeks of the
year, leaving 18 weeks free for holiday time away from school.
This is a full time post, 37.5 hours, covering the Health Centre duties Monday -
Saturday with the hours spread out through the week. You will be required to
cover on-call duties outside of the Health Centre opening hours from 5:30pm7:30am on a rotational basis.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to clinically assess, treat and deliver care whilst focusing on
improving the pupils health & wellbeing. This includes creating individual health
care plans for pupils with long term conditions, teaching pupils about health
prevention, screening and supporting the formation and delivery of clinics and
policies.
You will be a registered nurse with experience in paediatrics and/or adult care
or a qualified School Nurse.
We are looking for a confident, motivated and forward thinking medical
professional, who enjoys working with children and young people. Ideally you
will have prior experience of working in a School, Paediatric Assessment
(medicine or surgery), Practice Nursing, A&E and/or Minor Injuries. Experience
of sporting injuries is also advantageous, but not essential.

Nursing
Being visible and engaged in the school community, promoting the role of School Nurse.
Run nurse led triage clinics, providing advice, treatment and medication where necessary, consulting with our school
GPs and other health care professionals where required.
Assess, plan and evaluate Health Care Plans in partnership with parents, school doctors and school staff for pupils with
specific health care needs.
Organise GP clinics for pupils and make appointments when there is a clinical need.
Provide immediate nursing care for pupils when ill or injured, and provide treatment as appropriate, initiating further
care from external providers when necessary.
Organise counselling related appointments for pupils, providing support and Mental Health First Aid when required.
Provide a confidential health advice service to pupils as appropriate.
Recognise emergency situations and provide emergency care as necessary.Deliver first aid as per training, ensuring certification is up to date at all times.
If necessary, coordinate and accompany the transfer of any pupils to the local A&E department or other health care
related appointments.
Register new boarding pupils with our local GP surgery and complete new joiner medicals in collaboration with the
school GPs.
Be aware of infection control procedures and act in adherence to them at all times.
Where qualified to do so, support with staff training in automated external defibrillation (AED), anaphylaxis, diabetes,
asthma, epilepsy and the administration and safe storage of medication and other relevant learning as required.
Ensure that all documentation regarding any accidents or incidents on or away from school premises, including the
details of any first aid treatment given, is recorded in an accurate and contemporaneous manner.
Act as link nurse for the boarding houses completing regular visits to monitor the health and wellbeing of the pupils,
including medication audits.
Ensure that any medication given to pupils in school is stored, administered and documented according to the schools
Medicines Management Policy.
Monitor the expiration dates of any medicine supplied to the school by parents, and request replacement when
necessary and within a suitable time frame.
Health Education
Provide support and resources for the teaching staff in the provision of PSHE across the whole school.
Assist in the delivery of PSHE when required.
Promote & support health education throughout the school population.
Ensure the provision and access to a range of health promotion resources and keeping up to date with current health
promotion initiatives.
Professional
To adhere to the NMC code of professional conduct at all times.
To communicate appropriately and professionally with all staff Cross College attending meetings as required by the
Head of Medical Health & Welfare.
To exercise awareness of professional responsibilities by organising his or her workload.
