Senior Clinical Support Worker (MRI Facilities)

Job summary

The post of Senior Clinical Support Worker MRI Facilities is responsible for carrying out a range of administrative, clerical, housekeeping and clinical tasks that vary through the day to support the overall imaging services in Cardiovascular MRI. The post holder will greet patients and perform initial ID checks, register patient attendance on EPIC and CRF Manager our current patient management systems and prepare them for the MRI examination, as well as providing necessary care and support for patients and research participants during and after examinations.

The post holder will be required to work flexible hours between 07:00 20:00 hours, over 5-day working week in accordance with the needs of the facility.The post holder may be asked to participate in duties over the festive period and therefore may not be able to take the Kings concessionary/closure days around this time. Instead, the entitlement would be provided through time off in lieu. There will also be a requirement to cover weekend lists which are run routinely to help with waiting list pressures.

The post is critical to the smooth running of the MRI facility, working as part of a service team.This is a full time post for one year in the first instance with a potential for an extension, subject to management review, working entirely on site in the facility based at St Thomas hospital.

Main duties of the job

Maintain and support a clean and safe imaging environment

Decontaminate and clean imaging equipment, accessories, and clinical areas; move equipment appropriately to maintain service efficiency.

Manage stock and consumables

Provide communication and administrative support

Support patient care in clinical and research imaging

Assist with patient flow and operational readiness

The department has 9 MRI scanners and a catheterisation lab, providing clinical and research MRI services in the areas of cardiac, foetal, neonatal and advanced brain imaging. The facility is embedded within St Thomas Hospital. Last year we conducted over 7800 clinical scans, of which over 4500 were recruited to research.

Job responsibilities

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum level 3 qualification, e.g. A levels, AS levels, International Baccalaureate diploma or other technical levels such as NVQ Level 3 qualification, plus work experience in a relevant clinical-related post(s) OR Knowledge and skills gained through work experience in relevant clinical-related posts within health and social care settings
  • Experience with IV cannulation or willingness to undergo suitable training
  • Knowledge of healthcare safety protocols and infection control procedures and their impact on the environment.
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and research compliance standards
  • Clear spoken and written communication skills with attention to detail, competent in computer use and strong interpersonal and influencing/behavioral skills to interact with multi-disciplinary professionals, patients and research participants
  • Intermediate level of IT skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing high quality patient care including maintaining patient confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations
  • Flexible team-worker who is responsive to colleagues.
