Dental Nurse Tutor Assistant

Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic Dental Nurse Tutor Assistant to join our team at Bristol Dental School. We are a city centre state-of-the-art site located at 1 Trinity Quay, Avon Street, Bristol, delivering a new operating model for dental education since opening Summer of 2023. The role is full-time, Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

  • Assisting with the delivery of teaching and assessment materials.
  • Contribute to the design and development of lectures and assessments.
  • Help maintain high standards of teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Support trainee dental nurses in their clinical training alongside the Clinical Dental Nurse Tutor.
  • Escalate issues to the Programme Director as required.
  • Participate in recruitment and enrolment activities, including attending fairs and engaging with schools and community groups.
  • Support interview processes for prospective students.
  • Provide a visible clinical presence to guide students and assist with peer reviews and progression.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion while offering pastoral support.
  • Provide specific areas of administration related to the programme
  • Attend meetings to discuss student matters and represent the team at School Exam Boards when required.

Essential

  • National Certificate for Dental Nurses and registered with the GDC
  • A recognised teaching Certificate Level 3 or above (for example City and Guilds Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector or working towards obtaining this qualification
  • A recognised Assessor qualification (For example TQUK Level 3 certificate in assessing vocational achievement RQF, CAVA)

  • Post Qualifications or working towards

  • Detailed specialist knowledge and refined skills; demonstrated experience in Dental Nursing
  • Knowledge and understanding of the GDC intended learning outcomes associated with dental nurse training and safe practitioner and how these learning outcomes are assessed
  • Experience of supervising, coaching or mentoring trainee or junior dental nurses or clinical assistants
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development and keeping up to date to reflect any changes instituted by the General Dental Council
  • Worked as part of a dental team and participated in teaching/training sessions for dental nurses and students across all dental specialities
  • Excellent IT skills and power point presentation
  • Excellent communication skills and be approachable and empathic
