of Bristol Students Health Serviceis a GP practice for Bristol
university students and their dependents.
To apply for the role, you will
be an experienced Mental Health Nurse or Mental Health Nurse Prescriber.
Ideally you will have experience or knowledge relevant to working with the student
age group.
This is a full time role working 5 days per week (Monday Friday). We would
consider part time applications: please
state in your application if you are interested in part time hours. Occasional working on a Saturday or weekday
evening, and some cover of university closure days is also required.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with the GP and Psychology teams within the
practice to support student mental health, liaising with other support agencies,
both within the University and in Secondary Care as required.
You will work independently, providing assessment, treatment, and
referral of patients predominantly with low mood, anxiety and depression.
You will work with the SHERPA (Student Health Emotional Regulation
Pathway) to facilitate group working and assessment.
You will be responsible for carrying out annual reviews for
patients on the Mental Health Register.
You
will act as an independent nurse practitioner, demonstrating a high level of
practice and knowledge whilst participating in direct evidence-based
patient care.

- Excellent proven clinical skills
- Experience in mental health assessment, triage and care-planning
- A minimum of 3 years experience working in their professional area
- Recent experience of working within a mental health/NHS context
- Flexibility
- Ability to deal calmly with high stress situations
- Front line experience of using advanced assessment skills especially in determining the nature and severity of mental illness/health (functional and organic) and differentiation between physical and mental health symptoms and conditions
- Experience of facilitating group work
- Understanding of and sensitivity towards the needs of students with severe and enduring mental health difficulties
- Ability to work with others to write policy and procedural guidance
Desirable
- Experience of working with young people
- Experience of working with diverse groups of people
- Experience of working with patients from overseas
- Extensive working knowledge of the make up of the wider health and social care community including statutory and non-statutory services and direct experience of multi inter-agency working and collaboration
- Experience in mentalisation based therapy, formulation and assessment
- Experience of working with patients with eating disorders
- Knowledge of working with EMISWeb medical records system
- Relevant language skills
