Job summary

The School is now seeking to appoint an outstanding individual as Head of Clinical Education. In this role, you will oversee the clinical elements of the programme, including the programme's placement activities, providing clinical and educational expertise and leadership. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinical educator to step into a leadership role with us.

Main duties of the job

Provide leadership in curriculum design and delivery across the clinical components of the MBBS programme, supporting a broad-based team to deliver a curriculum that meets all regulatory requirements and offers an excellent student experience. Work both independently and collaboratively with the leads for other aspects of the curriculum to develop an integrated curriculum Direct the work of the Subject Leads in developing learning outcomes, placement plans, learning and revision materials and assessment items to meet necessary scope and quality standards. Build a strong working relationship with NHS partners in the region to ensure that plans are developed collaborative and are workable. Deputise for the Head of School, as requested, to support the vision for PCSM, facilitating the collaboration between Imperial and the University of Cumbria, and augmenting the profile of the School. Represent the academic interests of the School at local, regional and national level.

About the role Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria have entered into a partnership to form the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM), based at the University of Cumbria at the Carlisle Fusehill Street campus. PCSM's vision is to improve health outcomes for the people of Cumbria. The School is now seeking to appoint an outstanding individual as Head of Clinical Education. In this role, you will oversee the clinical elements of the programme, including the programme's placement activities, providing clinical and educational expertise and leadership. You will be based at the Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle and will work closely with clinical teams across Cumbria, the PCSM and UoC team, and the Faculty in London. What you would be doing

  • A primary medical qualification, with full GMC registration, a licence to practise medicine in the UK and a CCT
  • Possession of (or working towards) a recognised qualification in medical education or leadership, Advance HE fellowship (or similar)
  • Highly experienced, active clinician educator, with a detailed understanding of the local health context in Cumbria
  • Extensive experience of working in medical education/training
  • A track record of leadership in teaching, supervising and assessing in Higher Education, using a variety of strategies
  • A comprehensive understanding of the requirements for medical school curricula, as set out by the GMC, particularly as they relate to the clinical aspects of the programme
  • Proven leadership skills, with the capability to rigorously design, develop, communicate and oversee processes in line with guidance and best practice
  • Immediately credible with staff, NHS partners and students, with an ability to develop strong professional relationships.
  • Evidence of outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as an ambassador for the School to prospective students, schools and others
  • A solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to think creatively and innovatively in order to solve problems
