Imperial College London and the University of Cumbria have entered into a partnership to form the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM), based at the University of Cumbria at the Carlisle Fusehill Street campus. PCSM's vision is to improve health outcomes for the people of Cumbria.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Head of Primary Care, you will have responsibility for the recruitment and delivery of primary care placements, and for managing the School's relationship with primary care placement providers in the South of the county, ensuring we have a strong presence with general practices and the PCNs there. The curriculum is being designed collaboratively with academic and clinical colleagues to address the vision and aims of the School, and the unique challenges of delivery across Cumbria. You will be work with the Head of Primary Care to support the planning and development of innovative and engaging learning events, and associated teaching and learning and assessment materials. This is an exciting opportunity for a GP embedded in the South Cumbria region to shape a bespoke, community-based curriculum through engagement with our innovative and transformational medical programme. In all of these tasks, you will be supported by, and work collaboratively with, academic, clinical and professional services teams in Cumbria and London.

  • A GP with a primary medical qualification, full GMC registration, a licence to practice medicine in the UK and a CCT.
  • Significant experience of working in general practice in the South Cumbria region, with a detailed understanding of the local healthcare challenges and opportunities.
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills
  • A solutions-oriented approach, with the ability to think creatively and innovatively in order to solve problems
