We are seeking to appoint a MR Radiographer within the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) to support clinical trials and research. The successful applicant will be expected to support scanning activities within the MR Suites. The applicant will be a fully qualified, state-registered Diagnostic Radiographer with experience in cross-sectional imaging (MR, or MR and CT). Training for operation and use of our MR systems will be provided. The post would suite a self-motivated Radiographer who is interested in research and clinical trial MR and who will work without direct supervision with colleagues from a variety of clinical and research backgrounds.

There will be some flexibility in the day/time of scanner operator coverage, as agreed with line manager and dependent upon fluctuating scanner demand.

CUBRIC is a world-leading imaging and research centre of Cardiff University. Current facilities include a 7T Siemens MR scanner, 2 x Siemens Prisma 3T MR scanners, 3T Siemens Connectom MR scanner, based in an imaging facility in Maindy Road, Cardiff.

Main duties of the job

The focus of this role is to support clinical trial work on our 3 Tesla Prisma system, with some scanning on the other systems, following defined protocols. You will join an MR team which includes two radiographers, an MR physicist and an MR Lab Manager, plus a wider team of core staff within CUBRIC.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To provide a professional clinical & research radiographic MR service to patients and participant volunteers attending CUBRIC
  • To practice a professional and safe service in all aspects of CUBRIC MR safety-screening, scanner operation and all other MR-related activity. Operating the scanner competently, using standardised protocols and thereby producing high-quality and highly consistent data/image quality.
  • To possess a sound knowledge of participant and patient MR safety. Training on CUBRIC and Cardiff University processes will be given as part of employee induction.
  • Assist in booking and time-management of CUBRIC scanning activity
  • To communicate complex information and instructions at an appropriate and professional standard to; scan participants/patients/relatives or guardians; persons under the age of 16 years; vulnerable adults; persons with physical or mental health or cognitive disability.
  • Recognition and understanding of the Welsh Language Act in the workplace. As employee, recognising, practicing, and understanding of Cardiff University policy on Equality & Diversity and Data Protection in all communications and interactions with university employees, participants, patients, students, visitors and others.
  • To provide necessary daily scanner operator cover during the annual leave periods of scanning colleagues
  • To ensure that; non-ionising Radiation protection, MR environment safety management, and all CUBRIC, School, College, and Cardiff University safety policies & procedures are strictly adhered to at all times. Reporting all reportable incidents to line manager in a timely manner and taking appropriate action where necessary.
  • To contribute to MR policies and procedures, risk assessments, standard operating procedures.

  • To report any health & safety notifiable incidents, accidents or near-misses to line manager.

The Cardiff School of Psychology (including Research Centres: CUBRIC, WICN, Understanding Risk, and Occupational and Health Psychology) has a complement of over 50 academic staff, of whom 24 are Professors. There are 84 full and part-time research staff (including Royal Society, BBSRC, RCUK and ESRC Research Fellows). In addition, there is a substantial technical (12 staff) and administrative (25 staff) support staff. It is one of the largest Psychology departments in the UK.
