Job summary
This is an exciting
opportunity for a motivated and hard-working nurse to join our existing Airways
Nurse Team and work within both a research and clinical environment. The
appointee will undertake clinical research studies in asthma and COPD, and
support the running of the NHS severe asthma service. They will work closely
with Professors Pavord, Hinks and Dr Petuosi, Senior Clinical Research fellows,
leading projects held primarily at John Radcliffe Hospital. The appointed nurse
will have the opportunity to learn about new techniques to assess symptoms,
airway function and airway inflammation and will have the opportunity to
perform these assessments in research volunteers and clinic patients. The post
holder will have additional responsibilities including the coordination of more
detailed investigations in patients with unusual patterns of disease and
recruitment into research projects. For interested applicants there is an

Main duties of the job
The post holder
will be responsible for the day to day management of respiratory research trials
and care of respiratory patients from the severe asthma clinic. They will be
expected take part in all aspects of respiratory care & clinical trials,
including spirometry, phlebotomy, ECGs, observations and history taking. They
will also need to:
Have excellent
record keeping skills and maintain files and notes accurately.
Educate
patients re: medication use and completing diaries and train relevant health
care workers regarding trial protocols.
Ensure
continuity of care for patients, assisting with clinical duties required by the
NHS severe asthma service, including (but not limited to) telephone clinics,
rapid assessment clinics, biologics clinics, adherence clinics and
consultant-led asthma clinics.
Liaise
with general practice and trial monitors. Attend relevant training which
sometimes requires travel.

Medicine is part of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine. We have staff
based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital, Peter Medawar
Building for Pathogen Research and the
Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine.
Research
within Experimental Medicine spans fundamental basic science to translational
and experimental medicine approaches including clinical trials. We seek to
understand the pathophysiology of disease and apply this knowledge to develop
enhanced diagnostics and treatments for human disease.
Experimental
Medicine's thematic research includes immunology, infectious diseases,
gastroenterology, palliative care and respiratory medicine. The research is
undertaken within different groups and research units and includes clinical
trials.

Ability to train groups of other professional staff.
Good negotiation skills with staff and collaborators.
Ability to coordinate multiple research projects.
Having experience of the conduct of clinical research conducted to ICH GCP standards and experience of the use of Clinical research IT systems are both desirbale capabilities for this post.
