Job summary
Due to an
increase in activity in all aspects of the unit and the installation of a third
scanner, we are seeking an additional highly motivated and talented MR
radiographer to join the imaging
team at the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR). We
are looking for someone who will enjoy working in a cutting-edge clinical
research environment performing advanced MRI research and clinical techniques
(cardiac, liver and neuro), and actively participate in the clinical cardiac MR
service as part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, researchers,
radiographers, nurses and physicists. You will primarily assist in the provision of a safe,
efficient, effective, and flexible MR scanning service for the cardiovascular,
liver and neuro-imaging research protocols within OCMR. You will be expected to
deliver a high standard of imaging and patient care; assist in protocol
development and set up (both hardware and software
aspects) and help provide training and supervision of the imaging aspects of
the unit. You will work with and be supported by the lead radiographer and the
imaging team.
Main duties of the job
Provide a high-quality MRI imaging service to OCMR for
cardiovascular, liver and neuro-imaging research and support the clinical CMR
service where appropriate.
Ensure the safety and well-being of all patients, research
participants and normal volunteers undergoing imaging.
Use OCMR's
online booking system to manage the
schedule for the scanners.
Implementing, in accordance with OCMR and OUH policies,
effective safe working procedures that are reviewed on a periodic basis, and
supporting the development of OCMR policies-and Standard Operating Procedures.
Train new/existing staff using the facility regarding magnet
safety and the emergency procedures within OCMR.
Support OCMR staff in the maintenance and safe use of any
ancillary equipment such as MRE, injectors, physiological monitoring. Provide a high-quality MRI imaging service to OCMR for
cardiovascular, liver and neuro-imaging research and support the clinical CMR
service where appropriate.

Be aware of the Medical Devices Agency Guidelines for
Magnetic Resonance Equipment in Clinical
Use 2002 and support the lead radiographer (or nominated deputy) in their
implementation in OCMR,
Adhere to current OCMR, CVMed and OUH standard operating
policies and procedures.
To relate to all patients, research participants and normal volunteers with understanding and care,
respecting their privacy and dignity to provide a caring and confidential
service.
To perform intravenous injections when required, subject to
satisfactory completion of a recognised course
of training.
To demonstrate dexterity, accuracy and attention to detail
in the preparation of specialist equipment for procedures to be undertaken within the unit whilst
adhering to OCMR and OUH Trust policies e.g. intravenous drug administration,
taking blood samples, use of the power injector.
To perform neuro, liver and cardiac MRI examinations across
a range of clinical specialties upon a range of patient types both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi
professional team, in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal
standards and requirements.
To be aware of all Quality Control procedures within OCMR
including Quality Assurance testing
for image quality and equipment safety.
To take charge of an imaging session,
including scanning, ensuring the smooth and safe running of that session.
Database management
Database management of
the MR system, satellite consoles and remote workstations ensuring a smooth
workflow.
Data analysis and off-line image
analysis for research and clinical studies where required.
Personal
To take responsibility of your own
personal development and remain up to date in technical developments and trends
in imaging through participation in internal and external development
opportunities and to maintain a portfolio of evidence in support of CPD
undertaken.
The post holder
will be expected to participate in an annual performance development review
(PDR). This is an opportunity to reflect on performance over the past year and
to set development objectives for the year ahead.
Safety and Quality Control
To keep up-to-date with the current safety guidelines with
respect to the MR environment and the specific problems associated with
implants and devices associate with cardiovascular, liver and neuro-imaging.
You will be competent in basic life support (BLS) skills and
familiar with advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques.
To work with the OCMR Clinical Director, OCMR Lead
Radiographer and Operations Manager to develop and maintain standard operating
procedures for the unit.
To undertake annual training/update, BLS Manual Handling and
Fire prevention and other statutory
and mandatory training required by the University / Trust.
To report all accidents, incidents and areas of concern to senior staff ensuring relevant
documentation is completed.
Communication
To
establish and maintain effective relationships with research
participants, patients, company representatives and colleagues through
effective verbal and non-verbal communication.
To be
competent in managing challenging
situations that may arise, i.e. managing conflict, challenging behaviour,
disregard for MRI safety and adverse clinical events.
Physical Skills and Environment
